"Azeroth" is not the World's name [Blizzard did an Oopsie]

As you can clearly see, Azeroth is South of Khaz Modan and Lordaeron, and is used to refer to a Part of the World, and not the whole World itself.

The current expansion “Battle for Azeroth” got its name from the Box cover art of Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, where it says “The Battle for Azeroth continues over land, sea and air”.

Problem is, BFA does not take place on Azeroth, because the current faction war is being waged in Kul Tiras, Zandalar, Arathi Highlands (Lordaeron), and Darkshore (Kalimdor). Clearly nowhere near Azeroth.

So, to add insult to injury, they named the Expansion after the wrong thing…

Just something Classic players can remind Retail players of, that their expansion’s name is a mistake.

‘So what is the World called?’ I hear you saying…

Well that’s simple…

It’s called the World of Warcraft.

Also stated in the Warcraft one Intro

“Welcome, to the World of Warcraft.”

I don’t think the planet is called “World of Warcraft”.

The game takes place on the planet “Azeroth”… which happens to be both the name of the planet and of a continent.

It’s possible for 2 things to have the same name.

Idk, I think it was more likely just a lack of foresight on Blizzard’s part, probably not expecting that the lore of Warcraft would stretch as far as it did.

“Yo what should we name the world?”
“Eh just… call it the world of warcraft, we gotta launch this RTS in a couple weeks man.”

Evidence that the planet is called Azeroth:

Every NPC in game ever calling the planet Azeroth and Blizzard calling the world Azeroth.

Azeroth is the name of the sleeping titan at the core of the planet, also called Azeroth by inheritance.

There are many Azeroths in the game.

Azeroth the titan
Azeroth the planet
“The Kingdom of Azeroth” (known to us as the Kingdom of Stormwind, one of seven)
and Azeroth the continent, one of three.

I wait in eager anticipation for your next BfA hate thread. I wonder what obscure thing you can discover next!

You guys, the name of our planet isn’t Earth, earth is actually the dirt on the ground.

Say what you will about the expansion, but

As stated, Azeroth is the name of the planet. Gotta get your facts straight, bub.

3 known continents. There is a fan theory that we’ve only ever seen the northern hemisphere of Azeroth. I mean think about it. Nothrend is the frozen north, but the southern extremes of Kalimidor and the EK are deserts and tropical jungles. If they weren’t on the equator and closeto the south pole, they should also be frozen wastelands.

I’m no space expert, but couldn’t it be possible that a planet orbits a star in such a way that the southern portion is warm while the northern part is cold?

Yeah, I actually discovered that after I made the character. I’ve got a Druid named Celegorn that is a character in Morrowind and is really close in name to a character from LoTR named Celegorm.

Never even read the LoTR books and played maybe 30 minutes of Morrowind.

yes, but you wouldn’t have a day night cycle on that planet.

Edit: The south pole would basically always have to be facing the planet’s star.

Best thread I’ve seen in a while. Both general and classic.

And it’s right there on the picture haha.

The world’s name is Azeroth. Also, one of the major continents is called Azeroth. There is no inconsistency here.

The internet tells me it’s theoretically possible with “precession”.

But I think it would have to be perfectly synchronized to get this effect.

*western hemisphere.

They all but confirmed it in some interview that there’s an entire back side to Azeroth that we’ve never seen. Northrend is definitely the “north”, but there’s also jungles in Feralas. Plus we’ve seen globes of Azeroth where the “back” was all water.

If only they still had this tier of narration.
