While you’re all focused on ClassicLFG, other addons that I view as “cheating” are getting away with it. For example, Azeroth Auto Pilot.
Anyone using this addon will level significantly faster than a player not using it. It basically thinks for you and all you have to do is follow an arrow to your next objective, part of an optimized quest route pre-decided by the addon. There is no quest dialogues or figuring out where you need to go and what you need to do. Even a trained monkey could use it and reach max level in a timely manner.
From the description on curseforge:
Azeroth Auto Pilot - Classic is a Speed leveling addon. If you plan on getting from 1 to 60 as fast as possible this is the addon for you.
What it does:
Skips cutscenes
Can use hotkey or macro to use quest-items (Keybinds / AddOns)
Shows you where to go (Arrow)
Tells you what to do (Quest Objective Windows)
Asks if you want to do group quests
Auto takes flightpaths on questpath
Auto talk to npcs
Auto pickup and handin quests
Shows button for quests with useable-items
Bolded is what I think goes against the Classic mindset, since I heard devs plan to block addons that automate gameplay.
(edit) Mankrik’s wife became a meme at the time because everyone had trouble finding her and resorted to Barrens chat for help. Ask the same thing next week and people will reply: “install Questie you noob” or “Google it”.
I guess what I’m tryin’ to say is that everyone having to figure things out for themselves was an essential part of Vanilla WoW. It’s often why two people would start socializing in the first place - because one of them had trouble finding a quest location or item. Now, I know we can’t wipe people’s memories, but do we really need to have omniscient addons installed that ensure we never need help? (end edit)
I know a lot of you are planning to use this addon and can’t blame you for it. It’s currently allowed and gives you an edge over other players so what’s not to like? But I’m of the opinion that the game would be better for everyone if we all played fairly.
P.S. I specifically named AAP but I’m sure there are more addons like this. Maybe Guidelime, Leatrix, Questie to some extent, etc.
If you want the full experience then dont use it, simple. The same goes for any other mod. Why do you care about the quests I do or the pace at which I level? The game is a marathon not a sprint.
I can do pretty much everything for questing and being selective, quickly identifying quests I need or don’t need, etc, based on my personal knowledge.
I can also utilize 1 of the many online guides with many adaptive features on my 2nd monitor.
You do YOU and let the rest of the community make decisions for themselves.
Point taken. But at least you’d have to use your brain. You’d be manually reading the quest objectives and finding them on your map. And without a two-monitor setup, you’d have to alt-tab out constantly to sync with your list. I’d have no issue with this whatsoever.
I played back vanilla, i logged into the stress test and everything related to leveling came back to me, grinding areas, mobs, quests and npcs. There is no “even” playing field, i will be faster then anyone using a guide and it gets worse because i remember a lot of the level 60 content, gold, attunes, dungeons and class mechanics/rotations/builds.
Is it possible to write a macro that will do the same? Auto turn-in and accept?
I have to admit that I tested this add-on during the last stress test. Not because I intend to speed level, but because normally, I am a very slow leveler who tends to dawdle and this time, I have a hard cut-off point that I need to be at 60. It shouldn’t be too difficult-- by mid-October-- but if I waste time like usual, it could be a small problem.
The arrow wasn’t even something I noticed until the last day.
I will play with a questing addon if it’s allowed – it’s just too much of a disadvantage without one. During the stress test, most of my time was spent trying to figure out which quest to do first and where the objectives were. It was fun, though. Much more fun than having to follow an arrow like I’m playing the latest AAA garbage.
But if you’re all going to smoke past me while I’m reading quest descriptions, I’d rather install it so I don’t get left behind.
that was another one I was thinking of it basically did everything on this list. there was also quest helper there were many that did all these things.
But an addon version of it is not automated either. It’s a mindless string of code that spits out whatever the next step is after you complete the first. If you do things out of order, it’s not smart enough to correct itself.
It makes no decisions for you, it automates nothing.
