Awful thematic problem with neighborhoods

We decided early on that there would be two Housing zones available at launch, one for Alliance and one for Horde, with more possible places to live in the future.

Then you made a mistake early on. It seems our choices will be “Human houses in Elwynn” or “Orc huts in Durotar”. We’re expected to share these neighborhoods with friends and guildmates, who are going to be cross-faction. I get that it’s warbound, but it’s pretty off-putting to have to decorate around such a heavily explicit theme for a building just to exist in your guild’s neighborhood.

What we should’ve gotten were two faction-neutral neighborhood themes to pick between.

We have no idea what the structures will be like. And you left out this information:

The Alliance zone takes inspiration from Elwynn Forest with touches of Westfall and Duskwood, and the Horde’s is inspired by Durotar, its coastline, and Azshara.

And here’s the inspirational concept art for the Horde:

We don’t honestly know if the buildings will look like that for us or not. With the outcry, they should have choices.

I think the concept art showing the same Orcish theme for every house in that neighborhood indicates that there will not be other house models available in those plots of land.

Again, it’s just inspirational concept art. And for all we know, those might be perma buildings we don’t interact with.

Like I said, with the outcry from people, that concept could change drastically… or it could just be backdrop for what our actual houses look like.

By all means, though… continue with the outcry. No Belf or Nightborne in their right mind wants to live in any Orgrimmar style buildings. lol

Frostfire homeless camp. Never again.

The concept art looks exactly, like exactly, akin to FFXIV’S. If they follow suit, you’ll have many options… it’ll also make them look like a circus on some occasions. We have one model that can be described as an equivalent to your murloc, … Funny / cute except it can make you feel like NIMBY and HoA almost make sense lol.

Well that’s the way Warcraft started, Warcraft Orcs & Humans. The rest will probably be along if housing turns out to be popular (i.e.) profitable.

I do also get this feeling as well, which is incredibly disappointing. Though not trying to dwell on it because one, its just wow and two I have a bit of faith that it will be rather popular and they’ll give some more time to it.

I was hoping at least spots for the the eight vanilla races at least.

Those two are the most clashing for sure but over the years blizzard has done a pretty good job in my book to making sure each of the races have a different feeling home. Maybe not Mag’har I suppose unless they focus more on the Outland vs of homes. Even then that isn’t all that much different.

faction neutral is just a step in the wrong direction. you would still be stuck with two themes. seems like you just don’t like the horde, you can always faction change.

I agree with the reasoning for why we only get two locations. Making them faction specific was the mistake. I will not be faction changing, but thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, it definitely seems like based off the concept art, this is what we’re going to get. Horde Housing Neighborhood 1 = Orc Huts of different variants. Want this poop hut? Or maybe this stick hut? How about Garrosh Org style hut? Palm tree hut?

Then for Alliance it’ll be Alliance Housing Neighborhood 1 = Elwynn Cottage of different variants. Want this cozy one which looks ripped straight from cliche fantasy? Want this spooky one that’s somewhat broken up like in Duskwood? Want this autumn themed one that perhaps is akin to living in Redridge?

Overall, seems Horde might be getting Garrison 2.0 treatment. Although it’s an evergreen system that’ll add more neighborhoods in time, imagine how long it’ll probably take. 2yrs living in huts would be terrible for Horde. It took them many years to finally complete all the heritage armor sets… imagine including actual fully customizable houses within neighborhoods in different regions.

To each their own and all, but I’m honestly kind of relieved. I don’t disagree at all that we’ll be starting off housing with an extremely limited set of options, but honestly, FFXIV neighborhoods just look awful.

My hope is for Azuremyst draenei housing down the line to go with the new capital city (whenever that’s coming), and I won’t lie, it’d ruin the vibe if there’s just human and dwarf houses scattered around everywhere.

They did say they’re starting with two themes. You can be fairly certain that if people like housing, and stick with it, they’ll be working on more areas. I fully expect phase 2 to be Elvish - both Night and Blood.

Personally, I think the next areas should be in the most developed cities out there - Suramar and Boralus. Even at that Boralus is the one that feels most like a real city of anything out there.

But it makes sense that they start with the two iconic areas in the game.

For whatever reason, I’m optimistic. Blizzard has been paying a lot more attention to RP features lately.

Honestly, no matter what they chose to start with a lot of people are going to be missing out. Housing is behind two whole decades, and I’d rather it release piecemeal so feedback can be collected along the way. It’s an evergreen feature, after all.

Im disappointed with how limited it appears to be launching.

But, I don’t think theres enough info to be dramatic about it yet and either way, it will be better than no housing.

I think at the very least it’s unlikely Blizz will make it mandatory like Garrisons, so we can skip it if it turns out bad.
