Go back in time and shoo the dark trolls away from “well of eternity”. Because they mutated into elves over generations by being near it. And then conquered kalimendor Bullying trollkind before summoning an extradimensional hostile force directly onto our planet leading to the great continent being shattered.
Averting this one thing would undo most bad things that have happened on azeroth that was on a cataclysmic scale.
No elves, no orcs, no burning legion,
Just trolls, the animal people, titan constructs, and dragons. That in itself would be more then enough drama this planet needed.
Well, no.
The Burning Legion very much exists. They’ve just not come to Azeroth as soon as they did. They would have still found their way to us though, because Sarg’s goal was to eliminate all World Souls, and Azeroth is the strongest World Soul.
And as the races of Azeroth actually defeated the Legion, it would stand to reason that delaying their invasion of Azeorth simply buys them more time to get even stronger. For Sarg to be closer.
Maybe they don’t invade, because Sarg just slashes us with his Sword. (What Sword?)
If there was an invasion, instead of fighting powerful Elves with potent Magical attunement, they’re fighting unga-bunga Trolls with sticks and spears.
Finally are we just pretending like Old Gods don’t exist?
Yeah, it’s not like the Void Lords are unaware of our world and the sleeping world soul. Instead of facing the Burning Legion, it would have just been the Void and you would have still had a mad titan that would have turned to the Burning Legion and brought them here anyways.
Dwarves, Humans, and Gnomes would’ve come to exist anyway. And Gnomes would’ve done stuff that made elves look like amateurs, if they’d been around as long.
And as for “well Azeroth is waking up in , Gnomes wouldn’t have had the time anyway”, Sargeras’ sword expedited things.
It would be interesting to know if Sargeras would’ve found Azeroth before she hatched naturally. But we’ll never know, because that’s not how things panned out.
I think we’d have to turn the clock back even further and try to convince the Titans to imprison the Old Gods off planet. This would prevent the Well of Eternity from being created and prevent Yogg’saron from infecting Vrykul, Earthen, and Mechagnomes with the Curse of Flesh. This would make it so there are no dwarves, gnomes, or humans. Without humans, Medivh wouldn’t have existed to link the Dark Portal. This would prevent the orcs from invading. There would be trolls, tauren, centaurs, goblins, furbolgs, gnolls, murlocs, giants, and dragons. Without the Sundering, there would be no Pandaren, Hozen, Jinyu, or Sauroks. Draenei and orcs would be on Draenor and never arrive on Azeroth. Without humans and night elves, there would be no worgen. Ogres might exist in this scenario, but I think they’re native to Draenor, not Azeroth.
Without elves, the Horde never invades Azeroth. Without Thrall, Deathwing ushers in the Hour of Twilight. The Old Gods win and rebuild the Black Empire. Tauren are probably destroyed by Centaur. Not sure if the Pandaren would fare as well in their rebellion for that matter, since the Zandalari would be able to come to the support of the Mogu without having to worry about the Highborne.
