They seem more intent on keeping this thread alive so they can keep dumping on alliance. They have no clue what it has been like or how alliance AV devolved to what it is now or how much imbalance played into it, but they will argue as if they do.
The map is trash. A lot of us don’t play the map unless it’s AV weekend and some don’t play it at all. I’m not sure what they think they’re accomplishing with their incessent blaming alliance for losing AV after admitting the map is imbalanced unless it’s for attention.
Jadei, I was there on my hunter. I started the AV rep grind right after premades were blocked.
I was there trying to win every game, trying every possible strategy. In my grind to exalted I had 3 wins only. When you read all the different strategies posted on how alliance can win AV it just makes me shake my head. We lived it, we tried all the different strategies but some obstacles are too big to overcome unless your team compostion is vastly superior.
When I started the rep run on my rogue holding the druids were just becoming a thing. Some games we held Stone Hearth GY for over 2 hours farming horde. Other games it was lost in under 15 minutes. The games where we held it for hours some of us tried hard to convince the team that we vastly out-played horde and could go on to win the game but by this time nobody was interested. The only people left in the battleground were people who wanted nothing more than rep so they could get their cheap epics and never return to AV again.
I PvP’d a lot in vanilla and used to love AV, but this is far from the AV i remember.
I was there the day AV released when alliance were winning the zerg. I was there when we started our games with less than 20 players and rarely got past SHGY. I was there when premades were broke and we finally had to deal with the middle of the map. I saw alliance try so many different strats, with very little success. The map broke most alliance who care about winning so we left. I stuck around until summer before I accepted it was never going to be a fun bg. I still take my mage in for AV weekend because as much as the map sucks, large scale PvP can be pretty fun on a mage.
I also love AV. My guild was established around players who love AV. I don’t like this AV and I’m disappointed that Blizzard thought it was all classic deserved.
This is a discussion about AV. Feel free to restrain yourself to only the OP’s post. It is pretty clear that you would rather ignore things beyond blaming the map for the alleged 98% loss rate.
PS: I have repeatedly acknowledged that SFGY and the cave respawn order are factors. Also, I played AV during vanilla as alliance. Same map.
I would be more than content to just defend the horde base, or play a fragfest in the middile of the map for hours on end like we did in 2005.
But oh wait. I’m literally (and I mean the actual definition here) unable to do that because of the 2+ hour long queues making it impossible for me to ever get into a game with my play schedule, AND because 25+ of the alliance team die once, then afk leech at the spawn cave for rep. Woo boy.
If the Alliance need massive map advantages to win or if the map was flipped, fine whatever. I’d rather be able to play the BG with shenanigans than the current situation of not being able to play at all.
Let me preface by saying that Im not a no changes guy. Classic is no Vanilla but we were given plenty of advance notice that this was an homage to the original and they were going to stick to that as best they could.
We all knew in advance they were going with 1.12 and what that entailed - if you had any issues with it that was your time to go back to retail or whatever private server you called home. Its too late to be crying about a lack of changes when you told they werent coming - least of all because you want them or think theyre good for the game.
Now, Blizz has intervened quite a bit of course - no changes went out the window pretty quick due to Classic’s popularity and the potential for abuse that didnt go unnoticed by some subscribers. Even AV got in on the act.
The fixed the boss pulls, they added little patches of snow so that paths that were open for 15+ years were no longer accessible and a couple of other minor tweaks. AV got some little touches all while these types of map threads were all the rage. Someone at Blizz is aware of the opinions of pro map imbalance crowd. And yet, nothing was done to address these concerns. What can we extrapolate from that?
Either they think the map is fine or plenty good enough or they are filing this under ‘homage to vanilla’ which we all consented too even if begrudgingly. Either way its not broken. We can talk about what we think is wrong but we are in no position to make demands or declarations or anything of the sort - Classic was always a take it or leave it deal. So take it or leave it.
Personally, having multiple level 60s on both sides and doing AV daily as a matter of playstyle I cant honestly say there is an issue with the map. Could it use further tweaking, well yeah sure, but if thats what youre looking for, well, then go back to retail because it already exists there.
My issue with that is Korrak’s Revenge, and the work they put into that, to represent the 15 year anniversary of vanilla. Yet to this day it is withheld from vanilla classic because “clarity”.
The best “homage” to vanilla was not used in the recreation of vanilla.
Sure they were a catch 22, they solved some problems and introduced others. I would have been in favor of a solution where the system tried to match same realm first then switched to cross realm.
But #nochanges and all…
Or simply giving players a choice of cross realm BG’s or no at queue time. In general I’m in favor of choice when possible, just like giving korrak’s revenge as an option is something i’d be totally fine with for those who want it.
Having a different opinion than you (one based on many current factors and historical evidence) does not make someone a troll, just thought you could use the reminder since having a different opinion than you seems to make people trolls in your eyes.
