How do you guys make gold nowadays?

I’ve been thinking back to how I used to make honest, hard earned gold through picking herbs and mining ores.

It was a simple life, but it had integrity.

Nowadays, Automation via Gathering Botters have driven the prices of herbs and ores down to the point where gathering has become an unsustainable way to earn gold, especially after materials on the Auction House have become region-shared.

I’m literally surviving off loot box to loot box earned from Battlegrounds just to pay my repair & transmog bills, selling Rousing Ire and the occasional profession schematic.

I’ve never been the brightest person when it came to making money, gathering was all I knew.

  • Buy cheap automated gathering mats and sell overpriced green gear on your AH

  • have an alt account and buy/sell BoE’s between servers thanks to inter-server trade being a thing.

  • focus on a crafting niche for your server and become the king/queen of it. Be always in control of the market of that particular good or set of goods. There’s no ToS against monopolies in markets so the world is your oyster.

Keep gathering and build up Alchemy. I’ve never failed to make money with an herbalist and an alchemist.

  1. Do the soup weekly quest, the more 70s you have the better your chances. You’re looking for Alchemical Flavor Pocket which sells for a chunk of change.

  2. Do the centaur weekly, this is considerably more laborious than soup. Each character can do 3 hunts for 3 chances. You’re looking for Centaur’s Trophy Necklace, which also sells well.

  3. New expansion coming up, plan to herb/mine ferociously for the first two weeks. You’ll make enough gold to pay your sub for quite some time. You may even want to set aside other pursuits like dungeons and pvp, just pick flowers.

I do value-added crafting, some gathering, including fishing. and work orders.

I enjoy selling pets among other things, as the pet collectors have infinite gold.

edit: raw material prices are climbing. I think the botosphere got disrupted about a month ago.

While I don’t do it as often…I still sometimes go on gathering binges and can make a lot of gold from it (or just stockpile for “future gold”) because honestly, just flying around and doing some gathering in old world can be relaxing and fun
