good points, and you’re right a lot of what GW2 drops are things to craft stuff (either items or, for the long-term projects, legendary gear). And even then, GW2 allows remote bank deposits with the click of a button. You can loot gear, but at end-game the best gear is crafted or purchased from vendors.
in gw2 those ‘grey’ items are referred to as trophies, and mostly just there for another means of providing coin. But some are literally called ‘shiny bauble’.

That is a non sequitur.
There is absolutely no reason they would have to add a bunch more stuff because they changed the looting system.
I’m waiting for the people objecting to this to start complaining if we ever get true mounted/aerial combat because they can’t find the corpse to loot it.
LOTRO implemented remote, auto loot all with their Riders of Rohan expansion in 2012 when they added mounted combat. It was a simple requirement to allow for the new travel/fight mechanic. Cause otherwise, good luck finding wherever those mobs died strewn across a massive field of waist-high grass.
Or how about when a mob is disgraceful enough to die on the sheer drop of a hill or midair and you’re trying to reach it to loot.
Ridiculous to object to something so basic and solves so many already existing problems.

I think it’d be a good option to have yeah, but I don’t think I’d ever need it. I actually enjoy the click corpse, check items, click drops I want thing. It’s comfy to me.
Just tell us your real feelings instead of bowl-dipping everybody.

I just want automatic raiding, grouping with mouth breathers is horrible.
To clarify, FF14 doesn’t require you to pick up loot. Maybe that’s what OP is thinking that WoW could start doing.

I don’t mind clicking on a corpse to look it.
I was thinking about this recently. It’s especially annoying in dungeons - one thing that came to mind was leveling an alt through Neltharus, the “quest” is you loot a bunch of notes. But I kept forgetting to loot(thanks to M+ since you don’t loot in there) and I had to keep running back.
M+ got me out of the habit to loot, now I just forget

I’ve always loved auto loot in FFXIV.
There are grays that sell for millions. Why would we want them removed?

LOL I just vendor them all…
i would like autoloot too , and a way to filter items by name or something.

I would like this option, as I always loot everything on a corpse anyway. That said, I do skinning, so I’m always going over to the dead whatever if I can remove the skin from it’s body to fold up and place into my bags, so in many cases I’m going over to it anyway. I would like the option regardless of skinning though.

Only if they include filters to set what quality of items to automatically pick up.
I’d even settle for an “area loot” to replace the need to click on mobs.
Yes, though I do realize that FFXIV doesn’t have gray trash items, so I didn’t make that direct comparison, especially since people get all up in it when comparisons like that are made.
For those folks who don’t pick up everything, that would be a cool feature. There are a couple of addons that already do that, so it’s obviously not a hard thing to do.
How would that be different than what we have now? We have aoe looting, but still have to click on one mob in the area. Do you mean like a targeting circle sort of thing? That seems like it would be more clicks.
I personally think the loot sparkles and kneeling down to see what you’ve got, is a core part of the game I wouldn’t want changed or streamlined.
AoE loot is already good enough.
What kinds of stuff are y’all doing where a half-second to loot is too much time wasted? You’ve been playing WoW lol
Also grey trash items tend to be comedic or low-fantasy mog items. They have a general role/purpose.
Idk, just another aspect of the RPG in my MMORPG I don’t want removed.

I turn auto off when there’s an item I want in keys but is contested and I rather grab it after others who also want it leave so I don’t get the pst begging me for it. I feel bad saying no.
