So, since we can obviously auto-loot the Residual Memories, can we just get automatic looting for everything?
I get that the Memories are a currency, but if Blizz can do it for that, why can’t we have it for everything, so we don’t have to physically loot mobs anymore?
Isn’t it time?
ETA: To be clear (for those who want to be pedantic, or just don’t get what I’m asking for), I mean “automatic looting” where you don’t have to interact with a corpse to get the loot. The loot is deposited directly into your bags. Yes, we already have that in dungeons for some things, and for currencies in some situations, so why can’t this be expanded to all loot?
For those who don’t want it as a feature, make it a toggle.
For those who only want to loot some things but not all things, give it some filters.
This doesn’t need any game design or player psychoanalysis; it’s just a simple QoL feature request.
Sure. (Blizz monkeypaws it and adds 5 worthless grey items per mob so that your inventory is constantly full and doesn’t give you the option to turn off autoloot)
you pretty much already can. Yes you may have to click on the object /dead npc first but you can set it for auto loot…
just hit escape to open main menu, click on options and when the pop up window opens under Game Play select controls and the box is in larger area to check off.
Now if you mean you kill something and stuff auto loads into your bag, just remember you do have limited space and would be going in to unload junk more often . Where as being selective and only clicking on dead npcs would limit your auto looting to those ones .
This wasn’t a complaint, but a suggestion to open discussion. If that’s not what the GD is for, sorry, my bad.
Yeah, you’re probably right that even if Blizz did do this, they would screw it up somehow…
I’m well aware of how the “auto loot” that we already have in game works, so yes, this is what I mean. I pick up everything, all the time. All the greys, all the everything. Do people normally not do that?
I just pick up everything. I never look at what it is until I go to empty bags.
ETA: So just make it a toggle then. If folks are fussed about picking up greys, don’t set it to automatically loot without clicking on the mob. Everyone wins.
First of all, good on you for using GD for its intended purposes!
Secondly, bad on you for strawmanning a VERY valid response that whilst explicit and direct is… very much so a sensible response to give.
Games that decide to provide an endless number of conveniences for players seize to be games and just become chores. “Why do questing when you could just give me the experience” becomes “Eurgh… I have to login in order to raid…? Why can’t they automate that as well?”
And no, this ain’t a “slippery slope” fallacy (just to get that out of the way immediately) as we have seen this happen before. An endless number of conveniences eventually makes anything worthwhile null and void in terms of its meaning. We see this the most when it comes down to old dead MMOs that then get squeezed dry by introducing “QOL microtransactions.”
Josh Strife Hayes covers a lot of bad, old, abandoned, or otherwise niche and not “good” MMOs. One of which is Neverwinter which had this exact thing happen to it:
This is why this ain’t a slippery slope… but just a thing that happens when games are dead and publishers want to squeeze more money out from the player. At some level, you have to just play the game in order to get somewhere in the game because, even autoclickers require you to do that in order to get going. The homogenization of allowing us to loot multiple corpses at once was a good QOL improvement, but to remove the need to loot corpses at all would have too many negatives associated with it to be a netpositive.
Which is why Auvania’s response summarized it rather bluntly … but also correctly.
With the correct configuration you can loot all mobs around you, have it auto deposited into your inventory by just looting a single mob. If that is too difficult…
Some do some don’t not everyone wants every random item auto loaded into their bags . Some just like to get the quest items or say the greens they can sell in the ah.
The current system works best because it allows people to choose how they want to play the game in regards to looting. Taking away that option would be kind of like forcing people to play like those that prefer everything be auto looted.
What is being proposed is a toggle to deposit any loot the enemies which you’ve tagged drop into your bags, forgoing the action of clicking on corpses.
