Auto Targeting

Ok, so I know this is either a love or hate sorta thing, but I for one prefer Auto Target “jumping”.

Is there a way to turn it on?

I’m rolling a BM Hunter, and I’m rather tired of having to constantly hit tab to get to the next enemy target in a mob, especially in Dungeons because I do pay attention, but when there is a lot going on, I’m noticing I’m hitting spells but I have no target because my auto target isn’t jumping to the next enemy after what I had targeted died. This is killing a couple seconds of time, and whereas it’s not important now, it will be if I plan on taking this toon into M+ runs.

Again, I realize some people prefer not having their Hunters auto target jump like that, because it can jump to mobs way off in the distance (I deal with this on my Paladin sometimes with her Judgement cast, if something dies, it will go flying off to a mob not yet pulled) but it seems like it should be an option we could choose to have on or off …

This isn’t my only ranged character, I have an Affliction Warlock, Shadow Priest and a Druid (which I mainly Tank on, but she also does Balance DPS), and I never noticed an issue with targeting on them, just my Hunter.

So hopefully someone can tell me if there is a way to turn that option on - So I don’t have to constantly hit tab in order to select a enemy already in a pulled mob.

TIA–

Just be careful not to pull extra after the pressing your keys after the mob dies, causing an accidental pull. I usually have the following lines attached to all abilities:

/targetenemy [noharm]
/petassist

/startattack can also be used.
You can go for a /petattack (in order for faster pet control), but I’d be prepared for a /petpassive attached to another macro to avoid accidental facepulling.

Hmm, I can give those macros a shot, it’s just driving me nuts that my auto target wont jump to the nearest enemy or any for that matter once the one I had targeted dies. I’m constantly forced to re-hit Tab in order to lock onto a new enemy - Lately I just target the enemy with the most health in a large mob pull, that way I don’t have to worry about it for awhile, but that’s most likely a temp solution to this annoying little issue.

As much as I know Macros are useful, I’m not the biggest fan of them, especially when it comes to redoing ALL my abilities lol.

During Explosives weeks, I use Macros on my Paladin to make a few of my ST moves into mouse-overs to quickly take down those damn Explosive Orbs, but that’s about as useful as they get for me, as mouse-overs lol.

I would strongly advice against adding those macros to your attack abilities for dungeon play.

When you fight as a melee everything in melee range is in combat with you and accidentally selecting a target outside of your range doesn’t hurt anything because you can’t hit it with your auto attack to aggro it. But as a bm/mm hunter, more than other ranged classes, everything near and far is in range of your auto attack.

The targeting commands will select any hostile npc in range (which is far), even if its not pulled, and there is a chance that your autoshot will continue firing because you don’t immediately stop being flagged as “in combat” at the exact moment when everything dies and having 1 or 2 autoshots go off isn’t unheard of.

If you are concerned that the transition time in selecting a new target is hurting your dps then switch to a new target when your current one is very nearly dead. In a group, either your cleave or other people’s cleave will finish it off.
