Do groups made with the group finder auto convert to raid, or is it an addon/misuse of the tool?
I ask because I have never had this issue, yet it seems others do and it gets tiresome for elite world quests that are not raid eligible (challenge in x for instance).
The base game does not automatically convert to raid. There are probably add-ons that do this. My experience in BFA without such an add-on was that you had to manually click a “convert to raid” pop-up the base game gives you for world quests that are clearly meant to be done by a raid and not a 5-man (e.g., weekly world boss).
That would seem to be user-error on the part of the group leader. Either they’re clicking the button to convert to raid, just because Blizzard showed it to them when a sixth person applies to an auto-invite LFG, or it’s an add-on that shouldn’t be enabled by the group leader if the objective is not raid-eligible.
That matches up with my experience, but I was doing the WQ for the calling on my lock, was likely a bit rude but the reply I got was “it does it automatically” followed by and including a few less than ideal name callings along with “try it yourself”.
I guess you could try forming a group for the world-boss next week and then checking if it auto-converts on sixth applicant. Then repeat for a blue challenge quest, which I’m pretty sure should not auto-convert as those have to be done by a 5-man team (or less) to get credit.
If you joined someone else’s group for a blue WQ (Calling) and someone else told you “it does it automatically” they might have an add-on that shouldn’t be enabled. Alternatively they wrongly presume a challenge can be done by a raid–I saw plenty of that kind of mistake in Legion, less so in BFA, and I haven’t seen it at all yet in SL, but clearly you’ve seen it.
