Quite simply, Authenticator Requirement is bull and you need to repeal it. I have no phone, don’t want one, and refuse to use a friend’s phone. This is another hoop to jump through and making the game NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE TO PLAY. I guess I am leaving. You are ruining the game every day. Why?
I would say “Ok bye then” but assuming you’re the main of the other character, you already said you were leaving the game a year ago.
Yet here you are, paying for this ‘ruined’ game.
You can still make groups, so no.
But, like, you can still play? Sure, you can’t edit a couple fields in group finder but that’s literally the only thing it affects in any semblance of a negative way, and it doesn’t affect gameplay at all.
I’m starting to think all of these threads are created by one or two people.
Why? To see useless gits pout and stamp their ickle feets, of course.
Interested to know how many alts you have posted this topic on. Care to share?
Im beginning to think this is a campaign by gold farmers to get the authenticator removed for easier access. Of course, I may be just a suspicious old gnome…
Another example of why we need to have the forums changed to a single character posting system.
I’m sure Blizz will hop on changing it for the .0001% of people that don’t have a phone, while ignoring everyone else crying about spammers and boosters.
If you aren’t willing to get a phone, you’re just going to have to accept there are some things you won’t be able to do, and expecting everyone else to change for you is ludicrous.
Unless you’re handing out your credentials to leveling services and shady websites you’re much more likely to lock your self out of your account then save your account from theft.
And that’s my biggest gripe. Over the last 20 years I’ve had multiple phones, phone numbers, computers, hard drive crashes, broken phones, and extended breaks from the game.
Coming back to the game just required the lost password process via email. If however getting my account back required software tied to phone that broke 5 years ago using a phone number I don’t have anymore and a rescue code I saved in text document on a hard drive that failed 7 years ago, it would be a chore if even possible. In fact it would have been a major barrier keeping me from coming back to the game.
And given nothings changed in terms of LFG adds what’s the point of this?
It’s mobile market penetration and normalizing installing Blizzard EULA’s on your phone. Don’t you have phones? It’s not like they don’t see mobile as the next profit center frontier.
But instead of making games and apps so good you want to install them they’re using age old “it’s for your protection” tactics and actively making the game worse if you’re not an obedient little customer that installs their software on your phone.
And yet the vast majority are still running keys and high level keys just fine. And if not being able to edit a small line of text is a break it for you, well…Byye.
Wow players who refused to use an addon to solve their problem:
BLIZZarD these adds in LFG are TRASH your game is TRASH you do something about this I shoudln’t have to see it reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Blizzard
ok, sure, we’ll require an authenticator to post custom text, since most of the shady third party sites posting in LFG use throw away accounts, they won’t be able to post as many TOS violating sales ads in the LFG system.
Probably the same wow players who refused to use an addon in the first place to solve their problem:
BLIZZarD this authenticator requirement in LFG is TRASH your game is TRASH you do something about this I shoudln’t have to do it i don’t have a phone i won’t have a phone you can’t make me no no no no no reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
ya’ll are silly.
It’s really not crazy impactful unless you utilized the custom groups for oddball things.
I do think they should upgrade it to allow a party leader to post a group for any key the group has access to, not just themselves. Ie if someone wants to run a friend through something but neither have the authentication set up. That’s a QoL change to a very small number of users I would imagine.
I never thought there would be so much gripping over something added years ago, I can’t even remember how long I’ve had extra bag slots.
Change happens in life. Either embrace it, or resist and become a fossil.
There’s a lot of valid reasons to not want to tie your account to a physical device that is becoming increasingly insecure, is routinely lost or broken, is evolving into an always on device for corporate spyware, and has a 1-2 year planned obsolescence.
Security is trade off. You could bury the account information in a mine shaft on the moon and be totally secure, but never be able access it. Or you could set up the account “John” with password of “1234” and never be able to secure it. The level of security they’re asking for is more than my bank requires.
And that’s fine if you want to do it. But they are increasingly removing functionality to try and force people to install it.
not really. multi factor authentication is becoming more and more common, and rightly so. there are different ways of doing it. google (or other company) auth, physical tokens, custom phone apps, etc. blizz has chosen to go the route of a custom app.
we can dream up “reasons” why someone doesn’t want to use TfA all you want, but the reality is, an account is more secure WITH TfA than without.
This guy said it best:
Technology is going to move ahead with or without us.
I will add though, that it would be nice if they’d let us use other authentication services. let me use google auth if I want to. let me use a physical token, if I want to. don’t tie us to ONE form of TfA.
Authenticator requirement is not blacksmithing.
But they’re not… it was literally changed to reduce spam and has no real affect on gameplay whatsoever. You can still list groups, you just can’t edit the text fields, which is a completely unnecessary section anyway for the vast majority of posters.
You’re not being forced to do anything. The entire world is a give and take system. You can’t have everything your way. This is one of those cases. Either get an authenticator or don’t, the choice is yours, as are the consequences of that choice.
And it literally didn’t reduce spam.
What I would like to know is how Blizzard registers these posts - do they see characters, individual accounts or bnet account? Or all of the above?
Then again, I’m shocked at the number of people who play this game and have internet access and don’t have phones (not really since I don’t believe most of them).
That’s a you problem, not a bliz problem, trollina.
