This change has been announced for quite some time now. It was done as a security measure to stop advertising spams of the Premade group finder system. It is in my opinion at least a positive start to fixing the issue.
And dont give me that diversity nonsense. If you don’t have an authenticator (which is your choice and certainly allows for diversity of opinion right there) you can still create a group, you just can’t add any details to it…such as WTS and …goheretobehacked.com.
I’ve been playing this game, for so long, I still have the physical authenticator, from way back in like, what? Cata? Battery in it is dying, but it still works. I just have to press the button at a right angle, with the right amount of pressure to get the numbers to generate LOL
Still no phone authenticator, though.

If your computer craps out, I don’t think you’ll be playing WoW anyway. But, let’s be realistic, you can make groups without one, you’re just limited.
Hey Cartof? I just found out today that you cannot open a new folder on your computer and name it Con. I also found out that on Excel, you can list something on Feb. 29th 1900, which is a day that never happened during that year.

You won’t stop the spamming, but when you ban those people you also ban their phone #. So it’s significantly harder for them to keep pulling out new phone #s.
They don’t need a new phone, but instead a new phone number. And here is their solution: prepaid phone cards. Does the new authenticator thing solved something? No. And also they can create a new Blizzard or WoW account. Sellers win, Blizzard win, players still losing.

You need a contract cell phone number registered in your country. No, you can’t use pre-paid cards, phones, VOIP, etc.
An authenticator can run on a potato. Probably literally. Any “piece of crap” phone that turns on can use it. Stop being dramatic.
Are you confusing SMS protect with the Authenticator? I know people running the authenticator on an old phone with no service at all (just WiFi).
Have fun when the day comes and someone ganks your account. It’s a free service you al are complaining about security for your account. Even today that happens and specifically on unsecure accounts. You all are fussing about something that is literally ZERO cost to you. Have fun when you have to recover your account
