Authenticator help - knew I shouldn't have done it

As usual customer support not supporting.

I got the app like a good girl. Entered the number from phone to PC and nothing. Probably did it enough times to get locked out.

What gives? Downloaded app. Got in on phone apps and forum successfully last night, but can’t get on PC, first try, this morning.

So new found appreciation for game changes already dimmed. Darn. Customer service is still the same bull horse manure frustrating. I just want to play!!

I am not sure what issue you are having…

I would start by editing your own post to move it to the CS forum. You can do that by clicking the pencil icon then using the drop down list by the title to switch to CS forum. That moves your thread.

Edit - if your issue is that you can log in fine on forums and such but not the Bnet app on PC that might just be a flagging issue.

Close the Bnet launcher totally. Check task manager and be sure ALL battlenet processes are closed and/or reboot PC.

Restart app and it should pick up the flagging indicating an Auth is needed and have it synched up. You only have a few second to enter the code.

There is also a button on the phone app you can just push to say “yes authenticate”. No code needed.

Problem right there. RA older hands don’t go that fast when looking from phone to computer. Also, it’s not the problem and answer above, tried all that.

So, I’m left with getting rid of the authenticator and in the same boat I told other people wouldn’t be so hard yesterday.

So much for this thing working.

Also, I don’t want it moved because I’ll get more help from players than anywhere else.

I asked both places plus ticket - maximum coverage so I can at least play sooner than later.

Thx for answering, and sorry for my cranky attitude.

You should have the option to just push a button on the phone to verify the request. No need to type the code.

Is that not showing up? I don’t have the mobile one myself so I don’t know where the option is to select it for use. I assume you need to have your phone connected to the internet for that to function.

All of the above - yes

According to the article it should work like the following and you only need to type the code manually if you want to.

When you log in to your account, an authentication request is sent to your device. If the code on your device matches the one on your computer, press Approve.

If you want to login using the authenticator’s randomly-generated numeric code instead, click Use Authenticator Security Code on your computer. Then press Enter code manually on your device to generate an authentication code. Each code is unique and valid only once.

It looks like default is the press on the phone thing which is user friendly for folks with memory or mobility issues.

I’m not understanding. Is it asking you to enter a number on your computer from your phone’s authenticator?

Nope. Got it in in time. Just plain won’t work. Uninstalled app, reinstalled, hard rebooted both phone and pc. My pc, wow, gamer, build their own computers since 15 - the one made it over (early 30s now) couldn’t make it work. Does not work. Sorry.

Yes. Explained above. Son finally uninstalled it because he couldn’t get it to work either. Customer service did manage an email quickly despite being swamped, which I appreciated, but this will take somebody waay up the chain to fix.

Odd I made the switch to the mobile app about three months ago and I didn’t have any issues. When you open the Bnet launcher, it should send a request to your app and all you do is hit “accept” on the application. The only time I ever had to enter a number off of it was when I was linking it to my account.

Just got done - from originally posting question. Long time to try everything on the planet. It’s okay. Just won’t be able to list groups. I did alot… anyhow, wiped from this crud.

Of course I did that first.

:frowning: I installed last night and had no problems. It sent me a code via text, which I entered, and no issues whatsoever. I got a new pet and bag slots for it too. Bumping your post for anyone else who may be having an issue because I would sure like to help you get an answer.

you will still be able to list groups!

So you are being prompted by the app to accept the log in attempt, you are clicking accept and then nothing happens with the launcher? I am confused because I use the app daily and I never have an issue with it. It is obviously attached to your account if it is sending you prompts. Something odd going on.

Yep. Like I said tried everything including having tech son who games and played WoW from Warcraft I take time out of his day to come to mom’s rescue. Lol…turns out I did everything right from my end. O well

You don’t need someone way high up to remove it from your account. I still don’t totally understand what the issue is though. Is the authenticator attached to your account currently? If so, you wouldn’t be able to even log in. If not, you have the chance to try to add it again.

Also your comment about “both phones” is concerning. Why are their two phones?

so if it’s set up properly, when you try to log in on your computer, you will get a notification on your phone that there was a log in attempt.

You can either approve it directly from the notification:

or you can click through to open the app and approve it here

either way, the game will log you in.

if you are getting these notifications, tapping “approve” and not getting logged in, that’s unusual, and you should open a support ticket.

If you aren’t getting the notifications at all, it’s not hooked up to your bnet account properly.

also, I apparently need to charge my phone.

Uh oh. Did you make sure to write down both the serial number and restore code before you uninstalled the authenticator on your phone? If you uninstall the authenticator and then reinstall you must enter the restore code and serial number in order to get it working again. Otherwise it will not work, ever. Every time you install it creates a unique serial and restore code. Unless you put in the S/N + restore code combination from your first install, you have to contact Blizzard to fix the situation. As this requires verifying your identity you may be asked to scan and send them the picture of your government issued ID.

Since it sounds like the issue is the accept popup, maybe you have notifications for the Blizzard app turned off on your phone? If that’s the case, you would not see the popup and have to manually enter the code.
