Authenticator Bug / Flaw. Warning

Thank you for the reply but I am not asking for assistance here I am merely sharing my experience and hope that others will take light of it in case something like this happens to them. As a former GM myself many many years ago with the game EverQuest I understand perfectly well how these appeals and suspensions work. I don’t expect anything to be resolved via this thread and if I have come off sounding like that I apologize because that is not my intent. I welcome any feedback and information people can provide me so that I can prepare if something like this happens again in the future.

i don’t think anyone has made that claim.
anyone who has spent any amount of time here, would understand that some account actions are applied in error, which is why the appeals process exists.

if your son doesn’t live with you, and you haven’t downloaded the classic client, i’m not sure how you’d verify this long-distance.

Just saying that was done in January of this year so there was an activity with arenas.

I do not believe that is the account in question

That is the OP account they play on the regular. The OP sons account is the one in question.

Pretty sure it is the joint account he uses for his son that he is talking about. Although he also plays which complicates things.

His posting account is his own and does not seem to have much for PvP Arenas either.

Being accusatory or combative (although tempting) is never really a good thing when we can’t see the logs.

Yes, but they have been using the excuse that the account doesn’t do arenas at all to show that Blizzard is wrong and has clearly messed up. In fact they even told people to check the account.

There was clearly arena activity being done on the account in January, so there seems to be more going on with the account then the OP knows about. I don’t think it is combative or accusatory (although it could have been done in a better way) to point out that there is clearly arena activity that the OP might not be aware of.

A suspended account can’t post so I don’t think his posting account is the one in question. I think he is posting on his main, not the one he shares with his son.

We can’t see the suspended one he shares…I don’t think.

Vrak is around so maybe he can clarify all this!

The rogue is NOT the account in question. I am talking about a totally SEPARATE account as I own TWO. This rogue I am posting on is NOT on the account in question and it was a trial class that hasn’t been played in a year.

THIS is the account in question and if there is something I’m missing here, please point it out to me:

I’ll be constructive first. Have you exhausted all of your appeals via ticket? If you feel this passionately about the issue, I’d keep appealing until they tell you to stop, and that no more appeals will be heard.

I get that you want this here for posterity, but I’d be actually working on fixing the account first. But, that’s just me.

Well, one thing you’ve missed is that perhaps, the PVP violation occurred in Classic. You have no proof that your son didn’t download classic, and use a PVP boosting service to grab an honor ranking or two. Illegal “Boosting” on an account involves the account holder giving the authenticator code to the boosters crooks. This negates the need for someone to hack your authenticator or your computer, or phish out your password, etc.

Classic is free with every account, so there’s no reason for you to know he’s playing. It would be a regular login, just like Retail.

Booster logs in → you get asked for an authenticator code → you send the code to party A → party A sends it to party B → boosting commences.

That’s just one possible, imaginary scenario in which this would have happened.

(Also note, if you were actioned for “PvP boosting,” it doesn’t mean that arenas were even involved. That toon has 25k honorable kills. That is, no doubt, “some” PvP.)

Rarely have I had my fingers crossed harder.

My son has my laptop and there is no classic on it. He is a very casual player doesn’t know much of anything about the game at all other than playing with me. Doesn’t do dungeons doesn’t do hard content. Basically runs around killing trash and doing world quests.

As far as my PVP activity. It is almost all random battlegrounds because that’s what I enjoy doing. Do you see any PVP arena ratings or any ratings there? See any PVP worthy titles? This account of mine has been around since the birth of this game and I stopped playing during cataclysm. I have another totally separate account which I do PVP on and when I say separate account I mean a separate… Not wow-1 through 10 like a lot of people have on one master account.

The good news is that the ban has been lifted and the account is no longer under suspension.

  • Hint. Just because GM’s don’t post on the forums doesn’t mean they don’t read them either. Second, Live chat is also available at times and it works extremely well.

GMs do not come to this particular forum. The SFAs have said this time and time again. They are, however, actively looking at other forums.

The live chat is available at times, but only for a very slender window of time with the pandemic as it is and with people working from home. It’s never been off the table, only noted that it is somewhat elusive for a lot of players because of the limited availability.

That being said, I am glad you were able to get this fixed! Happy gaming to both you and your son.

Yes there is. It is part of the basic game client. All you have to do in order to play Classic is use the drop down menu above the Play button.

Regardless, glad you got it sorted out.
