Authentication for players outside the US

I’ve been told in another forum to move this here.

I literally can’t set the authenticator up because I now live in the UK and only have a UK phone number. I’ve lived in London since 2012. I have a legitimate phone number just not a US one anymore. I don’t mind having to add the authenticator that’s not a problem at all. I just need to be able to!

My old nyc cell number is now a google voice number that it won’t take.

What is my option?

I flagged this as a problem back in sept 4. There’s a post I made in it in then PTR forums. That of course was disregarded as usual.

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/dungeon-finder-authenticator-non-us-phone-number/1084796/5

I still see boosters advertising runs. So this hasn’t worked as well as they thought. Yet I, a long time legitimate player can’t set up the authenticator with my UK number.

I’m originally from NYC. And I’ve been on stormrage with the same character since launch. And I’m not interested in starting over on an EU server. I do have friends I play with in the us still.

Is there solution for this?
Will there be a solution in the future?

My us bank account is able to authenticate me there has to be a way to make this work for my blizzard account.

It’s valid to flag something as a problem when the solution alienates and excludes customers who are legitimate. It’s just very frustrating.

whats wrong with the app?

This is an interesting and must be a really frustrating scenario.

I would hope a blue poster jumps into this thread, as its seriously legitimate. Not that other complaints arent, but they have more structured answers on how to fix it.

You literally get an error that says.

! An external error occurred

It removes the +44 country code adds +1 country code. And formats my UK number as a us number. And that’s as far as I can get. I get bounced back to the beginning.

Accept that you are experiencing a very fringe case of your own making and either switch to an EU server or give up on custom titles. Those are your options.

I play from the Netherlands and was able to install it all just fine when they first came with the free slots and pet for the Authenticator. Even without a ‘contract’ phone number. I use a prepaid but it’s registered.

Is your bnet registered to US or UK?
You can play the NA servers just fine with a EU based Bnet. it just gets cranky on these kind of things, or tokens. And you always need to double check which version of the site you’re on…

[edit] just checked, my bnet is registered to the Netherlands. Perhaps send in a ticket to have your location altered to the UK so you can use UK options to register the Authenticator?

I’m on a US account. I’ve had the same account and character and server since classic launched in 2004.

Bnet is global, but the location in your settings is not. If you alter it to the UK, you can probably use your UK number for the Authenticator.

You cannot alter from US to EU. You have to create a brand new account and lose everything you have on US side.

WoW account yes, but not Bnet account. The authenticator is linked to the Bnet account.

Thanks Suhee. I’ll have a look I still pay for the sub out of my US bank account.

Also I’m not opposed to this change. I’d just like to be able to actually do it.

Also

Typical sad wow troll telling me to start over and move to the EU server with my fringe case that is a problem I created myself by moving for work.

Here’s some more fodder to use. I’m also a girl. Don’t say I never did you a solid.

Hopefully, that won’t be a problem. Customer support are really nice people if you need help setting things up. I had to contact them cause as EU based player, we can’t buy services like tokens, boosts or even guild renaming… but they can, for us.
(luckily, I can still binge on mounts and pets)

Yeah I had people in customer service tell me to post here because it wasn’t a customer service problem. Hopefully I can find a solution

That seems… silly. Can you edit your location in your settings yourself? I would assume that will require a ticket.

You can, because just a few years back I changed my Bnet account from EU to NA, as when I first joined Bnet on this account, I lived in EU. Moved back to the US and still had all shop prices/currency set to euro and by requesting a change via support, provide them with a US gov-issued ID, I was changed to NA.

Thanks guys. You’ve both given me some new angles to try.

You’re way more help than the Tauren warrior lol. Who illustrates exact reason I want to be able to say +18 chill when I list my keys and why I’m trying to get this resolved. To weed out the toxic players a bit. Because it does help.

As long as I can continue to play on stomrage with my original character I don’t really care if my account is swapped to EU. For payment, authentication etc.

But if I lose access to my characters on stormrage that’s a problem.

I only recently made a EU starter account because I was VERY bored during maintenance.

But hey, options. :stuck_out_tongue:

there actually is an drop down menu you can use for intent - it might not say chill but it lets you pick completion.

Lol I’ve thought of it because the 100ms latency is annoying sometimes. I miss my 30ms or less I had when I was in nyc.

But I can’t face grinding another healing priest to max level. Even though I have IRL friends here in the uk that play. And it means I could raid again.

That and having had my toon since classic she has load of things like benediction. Etc. My pets, my mounts. Lol

I dunno how to justify this stupidity? I live outside the US. In Australia in fact, and apart from having my phone number linked to BNet Account, I have also the authenticator app on my phone also linked to my BNet Account.

My god, the excuses are getting too real.
