I’d love to see your population figures, can you post a link to them or did you just make an assumption based on the name reservation process today ???
The stress test conducted on the weekend had plenty of people on in the oceanic realm, so many in fact we got experience the new layering mechanics first hand.
What is layering ? long story short, it’s there to prevent exactly what you’re concerned about - ending up on a wasteland server.
As with any release, initial numbers are useless gauge. You’re going to have a large number of players we are calling “tourists”, players who are subbed for Retail and only looking into classic because they can. Those tourists are going to skew any initial numbers to be totally inaccurate and thus worthless.
Yes, there are plenty of us Oceanic people out there as the Oceanic tag incorporates Australia, New Zealand and SEA.
Here’s some quick numbers for you :
- Australia’s population 2019 = 25,121,953
- New Zealands Population 2019 = 4,797,005
- S.E.A. population 2019 = 663,094,092
Now admittedly, we don’t know exactly which sections of SEA blizzard have included, as Korea and China have there own servers, but there still a hefty amount. Even if you disregard SEA entirely, you’ve still got over 30 million people in Aus/NZ.
Now lets go further and say a measly 0.2% of the population decides to play Classic, that’s still going to give you 60,000 just from Aus/NZ. Now add people in the US working odd hours and you’ll be pretty safe to bet on enough population. No one really knows though, only time will tell.
As to guilds recruiting, Yes some are, others are holding off until we have a way of actually making a guild and attracting the right type of player to it. There’s currently no dedicated forums for realms or guilds for Classic, making recruiting less than ideal for a game that isn’t live yet.
Edit note : sorry for the long reply, but your’s isn’t the first post I’ve seen concerned about server populations and I thought adding some limited facts to the discussion might help.
