Auras lacking, solution

We have auras back and I don’t see anyone celebrating, that’s probably because they are INCREDIBLY lackluster and virtually have no impact at all. It was a backwards choice to return them to the aura bar when half of them had been made passive. My solution is to return them all to passives, and our aura bar is made into CDs.

Devotion Aura, should be 10% damage reduction, you should notice when a Paladin is in your group but not be in desperate need of one for every form of content. The CD would be simple, triple the damage reduction for 10 seconds, 2-3 minute CD.

Crusader Aura, should increase ALL movement speed by 20%, not just mounted. The CD could be removing all movement impairing effects and increasing movement speed by 20%, .1.5-2 minute CD.

Concentration Aura, this should just be a haste buff 5 or 10%, it’s virtually useless as is and needs to be updated beyond Classic gameplay. The CD could be just a small heroism, 15% haste for 15 seconds, 5 minute CD.

Retribution Aura, anytime someone takes damage it should reduce major CDs up to 30s total every 2 minutes… CD could be reflected damage up to 25% of max hp, 2 minute CD.

These could all share CDs with every Paladin so stacking more Paladins would not be anymore beneficial.

If you buff Paladin Auras like this you’ll have to buff virtually every other class to have similar massive effects.

20% movement speed and 10% damage reduction for an entire raid is way too strong. Maybe keep it at 3% raid damage reduction, but double the effect on you. That way we can swap auras like warriors used to swap stances. A Crusader aura with like a 5% raid movement buff would be good, with double the effect on you. I don’t know what Retribution aura would do. The old school style of returning damage was kind of crap and boring. A 10% haste buff to an entire raid is also really insane and seems way too OP. Even 5% is pretty ridiculous for an entire raid. Maybe 3% and double for you. Concentration Aura is actually really good right now in a lot of raid encounters were bosses silence raids, but it’s really situational. I think it should like increase healing received by 3% as well.

I REALLY like the idea of auras.

but losing some of our passives just so they can become auras is terrible

Retribution aura makes me sad, having it up feels like you have no faith in your party/raid, you should never be rewarded when an ally dies while playing a paladin, a class whose fantasy is defending those around them. Make it an 10% damage reflect able to reflect up to 5% of the paladins max health or something, that way you don’t feel as bad when you use it, and it arguably has some use, and as a bonus it keeps its vanilla roots.

crusader aura just feels bad to lose as a passive, maybe give a partywide 10-15% run speed increase on top of the mount speed increase. Or simply make the mount speed passive for the paladin even when the auras not on.

concentration and devo seem fine, but I’m sure there’s issues with them too that I’m just not aware of.

please note, I am not a game dev nor an expert on balance, so my ret aura suggestion is in all likelihood garbage, all I know is its current iteration looks horrendous.

The problem with auras is that if they were really strong you would have to take 1 paladin for each aura and if every mythic raid needs 4 paladins it would be bad for the game.

Ret should have an Aura that is similar to other buffs melee bring to a group. So ret can compete in that area of the game.

Without buffs or changes I don’t see anyone putting value into Auras. Crusader, Retribution, and Concentration are basically DOA. Devotion has very little value at 3% you won’t miss it and you can barely tell ti’s there. My values may be OP but so what, it’s time for the Paladin to shine and bring buffs to a group that people actually desire.

Swapping auras is cancer, they are all on GCD and that style of game play feels like something from Classic, YUCK.

That’s pretty much how every specs feels, not just ret. Concentration aura isn’t useless, and 3% damage reduction for an entire raid is as big of a buff as other specs have. What does Feral have? No Raid buffs. A 2 minute cool down to boost movement speed of the melee around you, and a battle rez on a massive cool down. Arms has a 5% AP shout increase to melee, which is like 3% damage and applies to only half the people. Ret has the same raid contribution as everyone else.

I can count on one hand the number of times I switched to concentration aura when it was previously around. 3% damage reduction has no comparison to a battle rez. I have a Holy Paladin friend who is an amazing healer but would literally be passed by in high keys because he didn’t have a battle rez, but he had devotion aura through talents if needed and it wasn’t, cause it’s trash.

Battle Shout is not just for melee, they also have Rallying Cry which is 15% max hp increase.

Agreed.

Crusader - 10% movement speed for Paladin, 3% for others. That gives us the mobility we need without making us mandatory to others for M+. Also makes it worth the global in boss fights if we need to move.

Devo - Raid wide, atleast. 5% if we don’t get tuned better.

Concentration - Rework, too niche. They would have to develop an entire fight around this to be useful in PVE. Should be a PVP talent in current state. No idea what rework would be.

Retribution - Rework, again more of a Epic BG PVP talent, not even applying to arena. No idea what it should be.

Crusader needs movement speed boost added to it’s effects. This is because CA is a boost to steed so having this spell over a passive has effectively nerfed our only and bad gap closer. We already have to waste a global on freedom to make sure we get the best out of steed, it’s not fair we need to use another GCD to run at the same speed we can on live with steed.

If CA has a static movement increase, say 5%, it gives us incentive to always have it running.

Now leave Devo and Concentration as is and redesign ret as a weaker thorns that works well against fast hitting enemies, such as rogues.

Now we have a reason to aura dance and choose the best aura for a given situation.
