Aug/evoker thoughts

It’s been a minute since I posted, I was heavily in the Aug feedback on ptr. My opinion has gotten better as they fit into their place but some things I would say I’m still feeling critical about.

Breath of eons can still be a little weird or feel bad to cast. From time to time it just feels a bit disruptive and it’s been a danger to cast it in some cases from bad luck. Maybe if it didn’t lock you in place at the beginning or the end it would feel a bit better. More like rescue where it’s a very minor slow. I still advocate for fire breath to be sand/lightning blast and we monitor our temporal wounds more frequently over a few breaths of the fight vs one big breath.

Motes of possibility really needs to be reigned in with how far they land. I have been losing the effectiveness of this spell less to not playing around it but more to not being able to even use it. The worst case scenario I’ve had is it proccing 4 orbs in neltharions lair directly in a mob pack we would never pull wasting 40 seconds of cd. That’s massive. Not only that again, most people are afraid of them like a mechanic and we need a more organic way yo place them or use the strengths of this buff.

Plot the future and Overlord feel a bit weird. Plot is strange because haste is nice but it’s pretty much unnecessary to pick up that talent just as well as overlord. We got more eruption damage but until motes is fixed or we have some way to increase the value of breath of eons it feels like the related talents fall behind.

Timelessness doesn’t even matter let’s be real, this isn’t wrath, bladestorm isn’t the instant aggro rip it used to be. We don’t even need hunters for misdirect anymore (hell we barely need them at all since they’re so gimped) and classes like demon hunter who do things like the hunt and burst instantly are never taking aggro from tanks who are doing as much dps as the augvokers (the dps role) unless wow fundamentally changes aggro back to this critical balance between doing your best too fast and getting yourself murdered this talent is dead.

Healing options are kinda cool we just drain mana so fast it’s counter productive. I don’t ever intend to replace a healer but even for pinch moments it can feel damning to help.

Finally, pupil of alexstraza just outweighs echoing strike making our single target spell better than our aoe spell for aoe and that feels weird. As Aug has been tuned it feels more and more like a different flavor of dev extending ebon might the way it is. I still advocate for these 2 filler spells to get bronze/black adjustments in the form of that talent node or maybe even replacing the timelessness node to find a way to make those either more distinct to an augvoker OR to give them something unique for using them properly in your rotation. Otherwise I am rarely pressing azure strike as much as I’d imagine.

My initial thoughts on the spec were what transpired the first few weeks. It was lukewarm until the cases rose and people understood the power but I still think as a spec we’re missing just a little flavor not something like forgetting spice altogether in a meal more like needing a pinch of salt or pepper.

Also as it stands prescience/anachronism/fate mirror are so impactful it feels like there will never be a reason not to point them. I understand that fundamentals of a spec show up in a lot of trees but given what else is on the tree it feels like you will NEVER EVER skip those talents.

The essence regeneration in the class talents has always been underwhelming, unravel is very incredibly niche,I do not find anyone taking the tail swipe or wing buffet cd’s, the only reason anyone was taking oppressing roar was to exploit perilous fate same with not seeing perilous fate until people learned of the exploit.

Holy crap give us a tldr.

Nah, it says up front that this is critical. If you can’t finish the first paragraph are you really even in the right place? Or did you just come here to complain like 99% of other players?

People have “critical” posts about not having permanent visage form.

Bullet points and not writing a novel are your friend if you want people to actually read the post.

99% of people may come here to complain, but 100% of people are not here to read a Magna Carta-sized post (from a forum alt).

Many posts have been much more heavily in depth. What did either of you do besides show up to also complain? I’m offering input if you’re not privy to reading for more than a minute or so that’s entirely on you.

You can look at something like this read a bit and go “oh that isn’t all for me” or for some reason speak up and be unpleasant about the length of the post which has no relevance to what’s in it. If you don’t wanna read all that don’t, you don’t have to comment on every little thing that bothers you and if my thread rolled into the abyss who cares? I threw out my thoughts lol.

Ex-Presto here. 16 year healer and got fed up with the carry aspect of healers in M+ and how its mandatory to do damage instead of heal. Decided to go Augmentation as a change and am currently loving it, probably wont go back.

I am a 444 equipped Aug Evoker at 2.8k io (wont be pushing any more this season as i dont actually have time outside of weekends and dont want to get burnt out on aug)

Eons and dream flight took some time to get use to. Deep breath while its the same ability i feel like is less punishing to hold it for a second during a mechanic as its damage is immense for devastation/Presto.

The wind up time has always been annoying and i feel it is really clunky to use, but so has been deep breath and dream flight. I think at this point its just what its going to be like. Replacing Deep breath with Eons was a great choice as it means you can fire and forget the ability, if i had deep breath aswell i would probably roll over and pass out due to the number of mechanics you personally put out and have to deal with in a rotation.

Recall is basically a mandatory talent for evoker now. Deep breath use to not require it but with how the affixes work and heroic/mythic raid mechanics happen if you dont recall you are either going to get a bomb on experiments for being to close after the dispel or you will get a mechanic on something like amalgamation and have to run out making you use 1 or if not both hover charges. And dont get me started on M+ aoes you can run into using these types of abilities.

As a dps ability that isnt just bloodlust i think it is great but could use a slightly higher tuning. It is really noticable when people spam their crits into it (two destros spamming chaos bolt when eons procs in a 20 does about 9% of sharkbaits health) vs just people with out crits is very noticeable.

If you are having trouble with survivablity during this window of the flight, stretch time turns you into a brewmaster and grants you stagger for the duration of the flight, then just recall back and hope the healer can keep up. Popping renewing blaze will keep you up easy. A verdant if you have the talent Ancient flame will reduce your next living flame cast time by 40% which is not only a dps increase but maybe a Ebon might extension.

I have used Motes once, nobody picked them up so i took it off. The talent as a whole isnt really helpful if your CD reduction motes spawn across the room and people have to stop casting to grab them. The only people that could grab them were fire/frost mid cooldown and BM. Everyone else was planted and its understandable.

I think the Motes need to be something the evoker picks up that lowers everyone with ebon mights cooldowns or just lowers the cooldown at a very reduced rate. 2% cooldown across a raid vs 10% per orb would be acceptable honestly.

i LOVE future plot in M+.

To explain why i need to get a little more into detail. Mastery being the main stat (almost more then primary stat honestly but not really), Mastery on every piece vs mastery on half your pieces is very noticeable. Prescience is the culprit here. Prescience is a 12second CD with a 20second duration. At 20% mastery (roughly 7.7k) you gain +2.7seconds on prescience buff duration. This allows you to Presience two targets at a time. The talent Time skip and follow up talent of Interwoven Threads takes that timer duraiton to 22.9 seconds (the sweet spot). To obtain this outside of those two talents you need 24% which is roughly 8.8k). The major problem here is that i think currently with 447 gear we are limited to 8.7k unless we do some major things with trinkets or some weird zone of focus Embelishments (2 zones is 730 which is just under 2% mastery).

With interwoven threads being mandatory for me at this time to keep two prescience up i cant take both Futureplot AND Overlord. Overlord makes the rotation feel much smoother but lowers your ability to control ebonmight and shifting sands as much and Plot of the future is just a better choice as its a 2minute personal bloodlust.

What i think will happen next season is we will obtain enough mastery to have 10k mastery making this talent demand absolutely not a problem but at this time it is really punishing and you can feel it.

On a lighter note my alt Aug (wanted to see what it was like with no gear) while leveling felt horrific. Prescience had a 6second window at times to keep the buff up on two targets, Ebon might was only lasting 18seconds total due to no procs from prescience. Just an all round bad feeling while leveling and there isnt really a fix outside of buffing prescience and ebon mights timer durations.

I think timelessness should just be a baseline ability, more buffs, more support. It is a dead talent and i dont think i will ever take it. I can only ever see it being taken if you are helping a low level tank try to hold aggro over his carry. At which point the dps can actually usually carry the damage taken any way.

The change i would like to see here is the essence burst procs on heals not costing mana and a change to the healing of Emerald blossom when you pick the talents that increase healing on the targets with Symbiotic bloom. Supporting healers is great and all, taking less pain off their shoulders but 6% for 10seconds and keeping Emerald blossoms full heal and making it mana free on essence burst might be punishing.

As Preservation when you essence burst an emerald blossom it takes no mana at all. I think its to do with the wording of their essence burst talent. Essence burst makes all spells have no cost vs Augs version which is just a copy pasta of Devastations, cost no essence.

While that might be intentional as Aug isnt a healer it feels really bad to push Emerald blossom when you end combat or on a couple fights that it infinite procs on due to it actually draining your mana in almost 10seconds of constant combat and using just the procs alone to help healers.

Changing the essence burst would help alot and would also make it so healer support can be a thing and mythic proc guilds and some heroic/normals aswell could use it as an actual support for heals.

Azure strikes and echoing strikes are great. Especially in M+, i think echoing strikes should be higher just to outweigh Pupil as hitting for 80k x2 vs hitting for 23k x 6 is very different feeling. I think the echoes should be allowed to echo aswell to infinity. It would eventually time its self out. Those procs could provide you with more essence bursts and in turn more Eruptions.

Overall i think Aug was built with great care. A little to much. Freeing up some talents and offering other talents as baseline aswell as increasing small things like echoing strikes could improve the feel of it at lower mastery. But overall it shouldnt be changed until we see the outcome of 10.2 and its mastery stack.

This is a spec I’ve been playing a lot, 445 on my main Lilnasdormu, maybe it’s just a play style thing coming down from mainly dpsing. I used to tank when I was way younger but the variety of specs drew me in to playing dps. Aug specifically is very cool to me as I’ve always wanted to be a bronze dragon and I don’t much care for how something dies fast as long as it does die fast. I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily having issues with my gameplay it’s just feeling like certain bits of Aug are lacking in my experience. Just as well I will also say this is the only other time besides demon hunters arriving that I’ve cared this much about how a class feels or to even hear one as high. I would say that maybe the fact it is a bit more of a laid back spec is what’s really kicking me on the gameplay side. That’s just something that has its own variance.

I’m still not 100% familiar with quoting etc on mobile so mine is just broken up.

For breath, playing dev I kind of got used to it but I just rarely ever pop it beyond the obvious large aoe pulls. I have stretch time and it’s definitely saved me but considering how breath functions I have always felt like that should be something the class has because you’re vulnerable in the same ways.

I have been an active notes user because Aug is so strong right now you almost cannot make a wrong choice in your bottom tier talents. I think it’s a fun concept and I am adamant to use it because it gets dumped on a lot. It’s an underdog talent that’s actually fun when it isn’t putting you in danger since we’re allowed to cast while moving SOOOOOO much.

I believe echoing strikes does have an opportunity to infinitely proc (read a few times in the Aug disc) it’s just so astronomically low it’s not worth it. You would have to be lucky more often than not or not pressing living flame as much as you should.

In most cases I end up playing with different combinations of my bottom talents aside from the fate mirror path and I pretty much always have some variety of time skip. So I have seen advantages and disadvantages to many of the talents yet they all feel like they have their place and I guess I just feel like with a little bit of adjustment not even like a 90 degree sudden shift maybe just a 10. I really like augvoker I will always like augvoker. I will always be a part of the bronze dragon flight and a time mage. I just want to see this at its fullest potential and I think that dracthyr as a whole are very slightly held back by their race class distinction. Not at ton but maybe like 5%

Also crazy concept, maybe I just like how my mage looks. Ya know, part of the fun of the game? If posting as my drakthyr somehow changes things by all means you tell me. But I’m literally the same guy with the same opinions with miserable people in my thread because they can’t read a little.

its cos dragons are ugly :frowning:

I like augmentation.

Keep everyone buffed and hit things to extend buff… gg. I like the support type role and I hope they add in more specs to other classes that mimic this.

My current copium/hopium is illidan will return and show demon hunters how to imbue everyone with titan magic illidan ripped out of sargeras. Maybe because of his amber eyes of destiny and affinity to magic he could bring a third spec back with him

Hey works for me.

I would like to see it go to shamans as a 4th spec based around earth / lightening perhaps.

Maybe warrior with drum like abilities or roaring abilities to bolster your allies?

Absolutely, I think things like scourgelords banner, wind fury totem as it has always been, and many other very specific buffs are great. Even if say you have a shaman and an Aug even making someone windfury AND proc fate mirror looks/feels cool. A flurry of blades and sand for say, a rogue, because of the shaman and evoker also getting pumped by the warrior with their banner on. Every class losing some dps to benefit everyone in a much greater way. As long as people have quantifiable evidence of how effective they are with combat hooks and also evidence of things dying faster no one will complain.

Oh for sure and some spells etc are a nod to warcraft 3 and other warcraft games where you had to buff your other units etc.

Always hated that other dragons got to cast in their visage/got to choose. I get why we can’t be too crazy being any race but man do I wish I could have a night elf visage.

You have every right to write a novel here, and people also have every right to not want to read it.

Your reaction to people saying the post was too long was arguably more “miserable” than their reactions.

A lot of people write very long “suggestion” posts on evokers that haven’t touched anything other than LFR.

If people are anything like me and deciding whether or not to read a really long feedback/suggestion post, they may check that the person posting has an actual wealth of experience across the content they do before deciding to read on.

If you don’t want to read something you don’t need to express that to the writer just don’t do it. It does strike a nerve to get essentially a filler response to the merit of “I didn’t want to do something so now I have a complaint”

Even if I had prior posting experience evokers and specifically Aug haven’t been out long as it is. Post history or not I’ve played the game 18 long years, loved many specs and I especially enjoy my force multiplier dragon. I’ve also been trying to prog mythic and most of this I do as a solo player. I don’t have consistent walls to spitball my ideas to but I have a depth of thinking about this spec that I would enjoy perspectives on because I really want blizz to actually be able to look at these threads and go “wow people really care about what’s next for Aug”.

Still not gonna read it

Nothing I told you was to say you don’t have his ideas or valid concerns, lol.

But if you’ve been playing this game 18 years, as have I, you definitely knew you were going to get those responses to your post.
