I think the Hammer of Light ability given to templars, which, despite the long gaps between uses, still manages to make up a large portion of a templar’s damage just from how massive it is, suffers from pretty rough audio identity, making it not as satisfying to use as it should be. It’s just…a big windup that’s dead silent, with a crash that sounds awfully similar to heroic leap.
But I had an idea just now that could solve this. The best part? It doesn’t require any new sounds to be recorded.
Ever since cataclysm, I’ve always, personally, been a big fan of the sound made by the Templar’s Verdict skill. So much so, that I was sad when the skill got its sound replaced with what we have today.
This is the sound I’m referring to Though I swear wowhead used to have a remastered version of it that sounds clearer, I can’t find it anymore, but this will give you the idea.
It was likely replaced due to not being punchy enough for a quick, instant skill like verdict, and from that perspective, I guess I understand, even if its not my preference…but Hammer of Light is another story.
The old sound had a more drawn out buildup kind of feel, like a large, shining blade being unsheathed…Drawn out buildup? That sounds like exactly the kind of sound that’s missing to fill the dead air before Hammer of Light lands on your target.
Now I didn’t wanna talk out of my *** here, so I grabbed the sound file off wowhead and made a weakaura using it, to play the sound whenever hammer of light is cast, and by the light, it sounds glorious, with that sheathing sound winding up into the dramatic crash as it hits.
