Auctioning items below vendor price

Every now and then when auctioning stuff I get TSM to do a vendor check on the AH because sometimes, for some reason people will sell stuff for under the vendor value.

Guys, guys, dont dooeet. Why put something up for sale for less than you get selling it to a vendor? And I often see it even from characters that do a fair bit of AH dealing. Its not hard to check and see if what you want to sell it for makes you a flat loss. Even without using add ons.

Are they seeding an overpriced in there?

In eve you see this. its bait to get see who accidentally buys stuff. But that is tied to buy ordering wow lacks usually.

There exists people who like to list a single item at a sub vendor price in the hope that someone else undercuts them via an auto list addon so they can buy them all and vendor for profit.

Similar to listing 1 x Phantasmal Haunch for 9g60s every 180 seconds in the hope to trick others to list for that or lower - anything listed at this price is snapped up within milliseconds due to addons and reposted for 50-95g each (Frostmourne OCE).

No, these weren’t single items, there were from memory around 40 low level Shadowlands gems of 3 different cuts. Obviously somebody was levelling up a JC toon. Maybe there is a sort of emotional discomfit in just vendoring what would have been ores turned into gems.

Before they nerfed it because blizz hates fun you could buy mass amounts of bc epic uncut gems for 5-10silver each and sell the jc cut version for 6 gold each at a vendor

Those were the days

This is a constant thing in SoM… Even though SoM is dying a sad death.

People constantly post herbs, leather, etc for less than the vendor price. I don’t even think Auctionator lets me do that unless I manually put it in. Are people using the default auction house UI in classic… ??

5% AH cut is robbery.

Those are people who aren’t aware of such a thing ~ but those can also be people trying to lure people to post at that price so as to snipe it.

Who cares it doesn’t affect you.

Im not sure how that would work but then I didnt check to see if there were other similar gems slightly more expensive. In any case, I snapped em up as I cant resist a bargain for no effort.

I don’t care, especially when it makes me gold. It was merely an observation. Is it somehow wrong to talk about something that doesn’t directly affect you?

If so, I’ve been discussing topics during my life in entirely the wrong way… :sunglasses:

Normally;
Say lightless silk is set at 23g market price.
Someone posts it at 10g, or 5g or 1g.

People blindly posting and not looking.
Said person refreshing on a second monitor sees more posted below that lower price and those get bought out.

Now I’m not saying it’s ‘‘vendor price’’ but it’s been a tactic that’s growing in practice.

It could be entirely benevolent.

If there is an item that vendors for more than it sells… then it just goes to a vendor. Basically, gone.

But instead - maybe an actual player can use it.

Well, in that case, maybe the Seller would prefer to go to the market with another Player, and be a part of their journey, than just sink items to a vendor for a few copper in profit

Because people don’t pay attention and try to undercut you. Allowing you to buy it for cheaper. I do this all the time when mats are absurdly expensive and I want to lower the price by listing it for much cheaper and waiting for people to undercut me. If someone buys it is no big deal because I don’t lose much from it.

it’s a tactic to trick AH bots into posting things lower than their value and either flipping it or vendoring it

People will put up 100 items. One item for a couple of gold and them rest for 1,000 gold. Unsuspecting buyer needs 100 so he looks up the item and not looking carefully thinks he can get 100 for a couple of gold. He goes to buy them all and doesn’t look closely at the total cost before clicking purchase.

How do I know this? Because I’ve fallen for it before.

Yes I do understand that system but this wasn’t that. This was someone selling multiples of the same low level item for 10s or 20s under the vendor cost.

And it could also be that.

And I said above, I do understand that method but I dont think this particular instance was that since the items were fairly valueless.

And again, yes, I get that system. And again I don’t believe it was that.

Anyway I’ve probably pushed this topic as far as it will stretch. I shall now return you to your regular stations.

Yes like I said, it is possible it’s that or people not caring.

I like to buy stuff that is listed under vendor and then vendor it

People SAY these players exist, but I have yet to run into one. More often than not, I run into AH jockeys who are POed anyone would dare to try to sell something on THEIR AH.

Just trying to get rid of a few things from an old bank, I’ve gotten a nasty note from one of the big AH jockeys on the server telling me to “stop crashing the economy”. In conjunction with telling them to get lost, I told them my one item listed for cheap is not doing anything, however the piles of the same item THEY listed for 1s less than mine just to bury my one item so deep it will never be bought… THAT might be crashing your economy and “That’s a YOU problem.” :woman_shrugging:

Hyper-altruistic players listing things for super-cheap for nothing other than the joy of benefit to other players are not something I think actually exists.

I don’t put effort into looking for things like this, but when I run into them on occasion, I do the same.
