Auction Sniping - What are your thoughts?

The problem is there is bots doing this. test it out, list any item below vendor cost and it sells instantly. greys, vendor trash anything. there is bots running the AH and nothing is being done.

if you made a mistake and another player got lucky thats on you but, chances are it was someone running a AH bot.

Don’t get pissy because I am calling out your inability to read. Mistyping is not a “valuable lesson”. It’s mistyping. The “valuable lesson” is that the player base in WoW consists of sociopaths.

I wont argue with people having the choice to use it. But you also have to be aware of it and if they are aware of it then that choice presents itself. If there is no awareness it no longer SEEMS like a choice for that person which could be unfair(for everyone here in this thread we are all aware of the choice). This is why blizzard has taken the time and money to develop tools that imitate a lot of now obsolete addons in retail wow. They want to present all players with that choice and make sure they are aware of it.

They’re the same type of plague that helped put retail into its current state.

All they care about is the profit, the gold. Instead of end game e-sport stuff - they steal your baby and take it to sell it to another needy family - or worse.

I didn’t demand empathy from anyone I am merely observing that this playerbase does not possess any. L2r

So, the others are to blame for your mistake?

Cool, life must be great for you!

It actually is a valuable lesson. You will now look at your auction and confirm everything is set the way you want it before you hit the button to post it. Mistakes are one way we as humans and living creatures learn.

Mistakes happen, we learn from them. (hopefully)

Well, not quite. The character doing the scan has to be at the AH, sitting there, letting the scan run. They can’t get up and move away from within interaction distance of the auctioneer, so it’s not like, they’ll get a popup for an auction while they’re in LFR or something. That makes that account well-nigh useless if they’re going to scan 24/7, and won’t do anyone any good if they’re scanning while they’re sleeping since no one will be awake to press “buy” if something does come up. Which is all you have to do with a regular auction scan is press “buy” to get it, so I’m not sure the one-button-interaction argument would get much traction. TSM does offer to highlight targeted deals based on their own deeper scans to paid members, but they’re not immediate like the Sniper scan, my impression is that it’s more for big-ticket “investment” type auctions.

It also doesn’t throw up a big flashing ‘HOT DEAL BUY NOW’ screen or anything, it lists everything posted recently that is at less than 100% of the usual going AH value. It’s also worth mentioning that those values aren’t necessarily accurate, so anyone blindly buying what TSM puts up and says is at 5% of the usual going value isn’t going to end up making much. Some items are occasionally dramatically underpriced because they rarely sell, like discontinued items from old expansions or very rare battle pets, and might take months of constant reposts to get anyone to see them and want to buy them. Some of the “usual going prices” are just plain wrong, or are subject to manipulation - whales putting up items at inflated prices just so they can later post a “deep bargain” and trick other whales who aren’t paying attention.

You’re definitely not an outright capitalist if you think someone buying your product at the price you set, is disgusting.

You’re something much much sillier.

You came to the wrong side of the internet if you’re in search of empathy. Best advice anyone can give you is to accept your mistake and learn from it, which is applicable to all facets of life and not just the WoW auction house.

Blizzard allows literal botting programs(AH addons). This is what allowing literal bots does.

They bot things.

So is not exploiting typos.

by that argument though, i was unaware of X so X should be nerfed -> slippery slope.

What’s the right side of the internet for basic empathy?

Except no one knows it’s a typo. You screwed up, no one else is to blame most especially the person who bought your auction, thread over. Stop arguing.

You still have to admit that you’re at fault as well, not only the system. You really should’ve been paying more attention because if you did, it wouldn’t have happened.

I’d be kicking myself in the *** if I did that too, but I’d accept complete blame for it.

The very nature of AH sniping is to capitalize on mistakes.

They do know it’s a mistake which is why the very nature of the script is to purchase within a split second before the player has a chance to correct it.

I usually miss-post when I forget to select “per unit price” I wish that option was in the defaults. The mobile auction house let you select more defaults. That is very annoying. Sorry.
