I want to know if Blizzard is going to allow auction addons to continue to run rampant or start cracking down. I feel that it is impossible to compete on the AH w/o an addon. Nobody can outbid someone 100 times in under 3 seconds w/o an addon. This has been frustrating me lately.
I just want to know if Blizzard is going to continue to allow this, because if they are, I’m going to go download an auction house addon. If they are not going to allow this (which I’m pretty sure they cracked down on this in retail) then I will wait for Dev’s to fix the issue.
All signs show that classic AH functionality will remain classic.
Not impossible, but it’s definitely a ton more work to try and compete with high-turnover commodity tradeskill items if you don’t have an addon.
You’re right, literally nobody can – including those with addons. There are ratelimits to the Blizzard API, notably with pulling listings from the AH in addition to placing bids. Let alone that BOTH of those actions must be associated with a hardware human action (mouse/keyboard action) and cannot be fully automated. So yeah, if you think this is happening, you’re incorrect.
This is the rational approach, use the built-in addon functionality provided by Blizzard to play on the same playing field as those using addons. It’d be one thing if we were talking about 3rd party tools, but we’re talking about addons using the Blizzard API provided by the game.
One would argue that there’s nothing to “fix”. Not only is this how the AH operated in classic, including favoring those w/addons to work with the AH, but there’s nothing “broken”.
I use auctioneer just so I can filter prices by PPU (Price Per Unit) like on retail. So I know what the best price is instead of going through 10+ pages of items which may not be the lowest buyout but are the lowest bid price…
Like linen cloth with a 1 copper bid price but 10 gold buyout… do you know how much fun it is to go through 10 pages of just that on the default UI?
Point is they are staying because they don’t break the game, they just filter information out in a different format and many people like me just use auctioneer just to filter items like the default Retail AH UI.
As long as it’s not automated and not botting then it’s fine.
If addons like auctionator etc. function the same way they did in Classic they are fine (scan the AH and look for deals etc. then you have to click to buy etc.).
If addons are automating the buying / posting of auctions then that may be different.
Half right, you can not even do this with an addon.
The server wont let you flood like that, the API does not allow for it.
If anyone remembers some of the very 1st auction addons in the early vanilla API, you could actually flood yourself out pulling listings, and it lagged you out to the server screen, API prevents that now.
I have an auction addon, i forget which one, i think auctioneer suite classic with enchantrix
It is the only way i can find stuff with out going through multiple pages of non sense auctions, i can skip all the 1copper bid 60 gold buyout garbage, and just look at realistic peoples actions.
heck with half the retarded listings in the AH, i can not even figure a fair and reasonable price to ask for things otherwise.
I am not sure about all the addons, but i think it is pretty much the same, i have to confirm everything, posting, bidding etc.
On the other hand, 100 people all watching the same thing could probably raise the price 100 times in a few seconds, but nothing can prevent that.
People on these forums like to exaggerate, argue using hyperbole. This is an example where you’ve taken it too far: you’ve gone so far past what’s possible even WITH a bannable automated script* that I have no idea if this is even happening or if you’ve made it up.
Now, FWIW, I DO, in fact, agree with your point: most add-ons end up automating small tasks and auction house scanning/posting is one of the more problematic ones. But cut the hyperbole, it’s not helping anyone.
*There’s a limit on accepted inputs per second. Also, even if a bot is outbidding you 30 times per second, you’d have to be botting yourself to put in that many bids to be outbid on and measure it.
I use one to find the actual cheapest prices and market values. Then go through and bid on each 1 coppah bid of the item i was looking for just to aggravate them.
I dont know why they make 1000’s of those listings
You go bid the 1 copper min bid, and 2 min later the auction cancels, and 3 min later is reposted, again for 1 copper min bid.
So you rebid, and it cancels again.
Then you get a msg saying stop bidding on my stuff.
Well stop listing your stuff for 1 copper min bid
It is adjustable you know?
