Auction House - New Format Discussion

What are everyone’s thoughts on the new layout of the Auction House? I am so far not a fan. I do not like having the default go to buyout, and not being able to sort easily on the main page. It also seems they ONLY did this to the Cataclysm and not standard Classic.

There are some improvements - easier to actually see the cost of items rather than having a spammer put low quantities out, but not sure this outweighs the benefits of the old sorting options.

Is it really new, though? They’re just slowly transforming it into the retail auction house.

I like it, I enjoy cutting out the 100’s of single items for sale and being able to just bulk buy the things I need. Entire system just functions better than the old one.

Helps remove those annoying low big, extremely high buyout listings as well.

If you don’t like it use TSM, Auctionator or the plethora of other AH addons.

The new layout is not good. Makes it tough to view pricing on items and quantity

How so? All of that is clearly listed

I honestly do not think the response should ever be “Go download an addon” for base functionality.

How?

you put in what you want to buy, click it, and then get to see how many of X listings are Y cost and so on, you then type in the quantity you want to buy and get it all on one click. Its easier than before with less time spent buying one thing at a time.

Helps remove those annoying low big, extremely high buyout listings as well.

Those predatory auctions are still around. And I would argue are even easier to accidentally buy, specifically on commodities where there aren’t a massive quantity of

I’m sure it’s great for people who only use the AH as a means to an end and already know exactly why they’re going there in the first place. But it’s completely awful for someone who just enjoys browsing around, especially in the gear sections where lvl isn’t a sorting option anymore.

I was around when it was implemented into retail and the way the playerbase adapts is by babysitting their auctions for hours on end to be the first sale, and never pay any mind to the idea that the posted price everyone else is asking for might not be a viable sale price to a majority of people in the market for the item.

It encourages entitlement and toxicity - I’ve never gotten more rage-whispers from doing something in-game than I have by offering big undercuts in this new FIFO system. They tend to claim to know how the system works, but again, they pay no mind to the fact that 104 other individuals are trying to sell something at the same price which should suggest that it does not sell very well at that price.

It is really not advisable for those who do not want to sell their products at a bargain price, that is, as cheap as possible.

Don’t really see much difference but I also don’t buy a lot of items of the AH. It seems a bit streamlined though.

Its a great change, being able to list more than a few items without getting hit with auction errors constantly is great

Its great for me. If I want 10 volatiles, now I can buy the cheapest 10 instead of having to buy a stack of 100, or pay a higher price. Or if I want to see what green gem cut is selling for the highest price, I can see all green gems in 1 page instead of scanning through 6 pages.

Now if only they fixed the API so we could have historical pricing again…

You cant see the bid on prices any more, it also makes it more repetitive when buying specific types of items say wepons with certain Item level > 100g. You get a screen where you have to triple click. 1st click >> click on the 15g wepon >> Click on the one thats actually 15g not 100g >> then click buy. Then Click Back >> then now you are back to the wepons. Old AH format just sorted wepons less then 100g. Now it adds an additional layer of additional items that are the same just going for different prices.

Auction house doesn’t even work at all for me anymore, and none of the addons change anything. So yea, naturally I disapprove

It’s so much better imo. I don’t have to watch the buyout price anymore in fear of scammers cranking up the buyout.

Also, I’ve been able to sell things much, much quicker than before. It even tells you the ilvl of gear. It’s great! :+1:

I don’t know why they gutted the sorting functionalities, maybe I’m missing something? You can’t sort gear by Requires-Level or Quality anymore, that’s a CORE functionality, how the hell can you remove that??? There’s an entire pillar of the AH that is now just gone

Retail AH has ilevel sorting; the current cataclysm classic AH only really is optimal for the max level raider use case and not very friendly towards lower level toons comparison shopping/browsing for gear.

I think the current UI is fine, but if someone doesn’t like it then there’s addons that might be better suited to their tastes, that’s all I was saying.

You can’t see the bid when the bid is the same as they buyout.

I hate it and this is one reason I left the current ver of wow because I hate the look and format of the current AH on Classic Cat… I returned to classic in the hopes that it would stay classic, but didn’t. Before the current version, When I place and item for sale on the old style AH it sold within mins… Now when I place the same type of items for sale at the AH they never sold for 48 hours… That’s because it’s too confusing for others to find those items I posted at the AH. As of right now… the AH is useless to me and I can never use it as it too confusing… does this mean I’ll now leave classic cause of the AH… I just might. Then add in the pet battles during Mist… and that’s more crap that’s has not relation to the term “classic”. So Blizzard if you’re reading this… you really need to change the AH format back to the “Classic” ver.
