AU vs NA in BG's

I don’t really understand why this has to be a thing, and why people in NA have to be punished for AU lack of playerbase. Every time I enter a BG and its VS people on AU servers my ping spikes up to 500ms+ and players start teleporting around. Its made even worse when its an AU premade, the game becomes literally unplayable. I know there are many complaints about being queued into premades as a solo player, and this post is NOT a complaint about that. I just feel like my experience as a player from NA is completely ruined by being queued into AU players and its unfair to punish NA players for AU players lack of interest in the game (Half of them just play on NA servers anyway)

The only time you get onto an au server in a bg is when the majority of the players in the game are from au servers. Most of the time au players get put onto us servers - especially if they are solo queueing. So now you know how it feels for us - but most of the time you wont have this experience.

Poor US player experiencing what Australian players have experienced or always experienced.

Once there was a time when we always had 250 ping and had to fight people from the USA daily.

Did you know what skill it involved to be running ahead of a player and having to predict which way they were going to move to be able to keep hitting them with melee?

i’m in europe and have played against a decent amount of au premades and never once had a problem with me or them lagging, my ping stays the same

Weird. Playing on a US server from AU is only about 180ms ping. Your connection must suck.

Are you still playing on dial up? Have you double checked someone isn’t calling your mum on the home phone?

I havent noticed any visible lag, AU premades are usually a lot better than most though. Seems to be the one everyone on my server loses to the most.

Yeah, was gonna say this, I play regularly on CB as an aussie, and my ping never goes over 200, nor do people teleport around.

If that’s your experience playing on aus servers, then that sounds like a you problem, not a server problem

I’ve seen several AU players in BGs (Yo Tmax, how you doing?), and also faced AU premades, but for whatever reason, I haven’t noticed any issues personally that resemble what the OP describes.

:woman_shrugging:

I would argue that per capita AU is just as interested in WoW as NA.

I think it’s your brain that’s lagging, not the battleground. You are not recognizing AU is a much smaller demographic.

I don’t really understand why you think the world revolves around you and your country.

OP, look for guides on how to open up your NAT settings on your router. That might help.

I live in AU and have always played on NA servers… the ping is fine

Actually, it isn’t made up.

This happened more prominently during SOM. I’m my ping would also skyrocket when fighting an AU premade for god knows what reason.

I haven’t had this issue on sod but some of my friends still are. No idea what’s going on w that.

500+ms is a reach. If you really are getting that type of ping it’s definitely not caused by playing with an OCE lobby.

As others have said, I don’t doubt latency spikes when matched with Oceania but we have been experiencing this for years and the connection is not as bad as it’s always made out to be. 100-200 is pretty standard and manageable.

If OP is routinely getting 500+, something else is going on with their connection.

Yeah I never got 500 nor was it unplayable but it was significantly noticeable.

In sod I don’t notice it at all but I just remembered I live somewhere different than when it was som lol
