Attack Ground effects missing in certain terrain

I am running the following
i5 6600k
RX 5700 xt
16gb ram
1 tb evo ssd

My wife has a very similar system, same graphics, and cpu. We both have an issue where when we go to fight certain bosses the ground effect showing an incoming attack will not show…almost like the layer is off. This especially happens if it is in a room with a carpet or something.

For example we can see no ground effects that are flat in the bottom room of the minor rift the shrine of the seven stars. Instead it seems like they are covered up by the carpet until they explode. The same thing happens on other bosses.

We generally run with settings on 7 , and the projected textures are on and particle density is set to High.

I have tried several versions of the AMD drivers and all seem to do the same thing.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Hey there,

Can you try this command below to see if it helps? This will reset all of the settings/cvars even the hidden ones that can’t be changed with the menu options.

/console cvar_default

Test it again and see if that gets things to show up properly. If it still looks odd you might want to try switching the DirectX version (11 or 12) under System -> Advanced -> Graphics API. See if that has any effect.

If you can get a screenshot or a short clip of what you’re seeing and an example of what it should look like that would be helpful as well.

This right here is what I am talking about…but for enemy attacks. So if it is a large carpet…I won’t see a thing then get blasted…

Wait…I have no idea how to post a screenshot. Doesn’t appear to be an option. Will try those ideas in the meantime.

It won’t let me post more so thought I would edit this.

If you can post the image to an image hosting site like imgur.com for example, that’ll allow you to post the link here. Use the </> button to post the link since the forums won’t allow direct links.

/console cvar_default gave me a permissions error

“you do not have permission to perform that function”
It does seem to have reset a ton of things though so maybe it worked.

I tried dx 11 Legacy, dx 11, and dx 12 and all seem to do it. I also noticed my moves do the same thing. For example if I go to the portal room in Borelus and cast Infernal strike on a rug, I jump there, and drop a rune on the ground. The targeter, and rune are both under the rug. So if I am in an area with a large rug…I can’t see anything, no targeter and no rune. That is workable…but incoming attacks suck.

Oh got it to post:) Hope this makes sense now.

The permission error is normal for that command, since it tries resetting things you don’t have access to as a normal player. Forgot to mention.

The screenshot helps, thanks! I think that may actually be normal depending on the building/area that you’re in. The rug is just above the spell indicator in that case. You could test it and see if it happens on some rugs/carpet patterns and not others, but I’m willing to bet that it’s the same for everyone in that case.

I tried recreating the same as your screenshot but mine is not high enough level to get to Boralus.

I did test it in the Stormwind portal room on one of the rugs and the Infernal Strike indicator showed up above the rug in that spot.

May just be an issue with specific places then, but for the rifts…it really sucks. The most noticeable is the minor rifts where you fight in a room in uldum or in the temple in panda…it can easily get you murdered because you can’t see the attack incoming.

I can confirm that it does not happen in stormwind portal room…so I guess it is place specific…or you just haven’t tested it on something that does it for me. Ugh. Well the carpet downstairs in the summer terrace at 86/59 in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms does it for me.
