AT&T Uverse Latency and Disconnects

Hi guys,

I’m seeing the same latency and disconnects a lot of people are complaining about. I’m on Tichondrius US. My ISP is AT&T Uverse, and I’m connecting from the LA area. I’m getting pretty high latency spikes from this server: ae1-br01-eqla1.as57976.net which seems to be owned by Akamai Technologies (which seems to be Blizzard’s ISP?) - and it’s routing up to Kansas for some rather silly reason (considering I’m in Orange county as are the west coast servers). I have no issues playing Final Fantasy, but during peak hours (my raid time) I get disconnected from WoW every few minutes.

Although packet loss doesn’t seem to be a concern here, there is high latency starting with the first node in your ISP’s network of 128ms occasionally.

The high ping on the Blizzard node can be disregarded because it doesn’t prioritize ping tests, and your high ping after that node is only 152ms.

Did you run this WinMTR during the peak hours?

I did. :slight_smile: I ran it while I was disconnecting during peak hours.

Weird, there’s no disconnection showing up in this test, just high latency. It could just be that the nodes in your area are overloaded during peak times, which would be something you need to discuss with the ISP to see if they can make any adjustments. Maybe the staff will have more insight here, or you might want to put in a ticket to see if they can offer any other advice.

Howdy Luthial,

To clarify, it looks like you are staying within California in the routing test. You may want to try a wired connection to help reduce some of the latency spikes you are getting but as Elocin mentioned there’s nothing serious showing in the test. This could indicate throttling or something on the computer causing the disconnect. Have you tried these steps?

Hi guys:

Thank you for your help! I had done many of the steps in the guide you provided, Zenlaka. But there’s a few I missed:

  1. Reset your network devices to make sure your router hasn’t become flooded with data - done last night and just now.

  2. Release and renew your IP and flush your DNS to resolve any network conflicts - also tried this last night and just now.

  3. Update your drivers and operating system to resolve any compatibility issues - windows is completely patched, and just updated the video driver.

  4. If you’re using a wireless connection, optimize your internet connection to rule out a connection issue - I’ve always been wired directly into my internet device, so no need for change here.

  5. Close all other applications to resolve software conflicts and free up resources - I’ve exited everything running in the taskbar, and paused AV protection.

  6. Addons - I’ve disabled them all.

In this current state (with everything turned off and updated), right now I’m getting regular disconnects. I can stay on maybe an average of five minutes before I get the boot. It was better earlier today, but I was still seeing some disconnects. This is my updated WinMTR - which has been running maybe 10 minutes (since I rebooted my computer and reset my modem):
