Atrocious Download/Update speeds

I have a 1 Gb internet connection. Every other game service I use I get phenomenal download speeds when games are updating. Why is it then that every Blizzard game kicks back to the age of dinosaurs when dial up modems reigned supreme when it comes to getting game downloads and updates??? THIS IS 2023 NOT THE DARK AGES. Get that fixed Blizzard.

Someone else mentioned all Blizzard downloads are treated as P2P. Sometimes this requires other optimizations on the modem or in Windows to get better speeds. Though, not sure what speed you’re seeing now.

There was definitely something going on last night with their servers. The speeds were all over the place and normally, I download updates and whole games from them at a locked ~25mb/s. Last night, it was barely hitting 1mb/s for more than a few seconds at a time and it was doing all kinds of weird up and down stuff like going down to 100kb/s and then jumping to 10mb/s for a second. I thought maybe it was just doing incremental downloading+installing where it was getting single files at a time and then doing I/O stuff before moving on to downloading more files, but it really seemed like the servers were just acting weird.

Lots of updates happened this week, so it would make sense that they were having server bandwidth issues. WoW, OW2, D4, MW3/WZ preload where what I saw when I went to update everything. Probably just 10-20 million people trying to download stuff at the same time.

Have you checked your download limits in the app? click the icon in the upper left corner then downloads
