It’s cause they’re stackable, and there’s some limitation in the engine that makes it impossible to apply the trade window to stackable items. The only solution would be to make them not stack, and they didn’t want each splinter to take up its own slot.
I’m guessing because it’s a stack. They dont have it set up to differentiate between the tradable parts of the stack and the non tradable parts of the stack. It would be pretty busted if you could just drop a fresh splitter on a stack and trade the whole thing to another person.
Now if they had the tradable ones not stack(each would have a different timer) and the non tradable ones in stack that would be a pretty simple solution. But I’m guessing they dont have that developed.

it was in a blue post on this forum. cross posted into the sub reddit. and i want to say there was something about it on wowhead too.
really should have been stickied. and i dont think they did a good job of notifying players about this.
the reason given was along the lines is because its a stackable item and conservation of bag space. they would have had to change it from that to make it tradeable or something of that nature. sounded like an excuse to not work on it imo…

Bindings are a quest item… tradeable… Eye of rag, quest item… Hell broodlord’s head was tradeable… Essence of the firelord? Tradeable…
