At what point should the enemies that we face in WoW start thinking “Oh crap… this vaunted hero has taken on and defeated all these powerful threats that are probably much more powerful than I am, maybe I should be a little bit more careful or even just… not anger or upset them.”
Obviously for gameplay reasons it’s an irrelevant question to ask.
But if you mean headcanon-wise, then just assume they’re all dumb dumbs who believe that surely they’ll be the one to take us down once and for all. Yes. Surely.
That I feel is one of the biggest issues in story writing, we’ve already reach the apex of the burning legion, we’ve fought titans and old gods. With only the void lords left… it does make sense for the story at that point to end… we’ve climbed every mountain, what is there left to us? Is there gonna be some giga deity that is the real overarching villain pulling another Jailer? Who knows… especially with the writers we are currently stuck with.
That’s a good question.
When does Jaina see us and say “oh crap, it’s Tovi! She’s too powerful, and cowish, we need to run!” and not the other way around?
I just pretend that all our enemies have massive egos and think that they can take the “hero” on without effort.
Its like being mugged while wearing full Daedric armor.
One look at that outfit and your enemies are going to think it’s all just hype. You’re fine.
EDIT: Okay. To be fair and honest here everyone that plays wow is a wow player. Everyone on the wow forums is a wow player. Exactly what course of action can an NPC take that won’t upset or anger us?
See?
When you have a titan imprisoning, old god killing champion of justice coming after you and yet you still continue to go through with your evil deeds, I’m sorry but “you ****** up”
I kind of expect a Legion-esque questline where the heroes are robbed of most of their power, just to canonically bring us down to par.
Then again, the pessimist in me doesn’t see Blizzard worrying about it too much. I do wish the story and story telling was more enthralling, though.
This is why people like Iridikron: He respects our power and is therefore seen as wise.
I think the Lich King did too?
My memory might be a bit fuzzy on that.
Furthermore if they were to fight each other, who do you think would win? The Jailer at the height of his power in Shadowlands or Xal’atath? (I’d place my bets on Zo’vall and we defeated him so…)
This is prolly why were going to lose at the end of the Worldsoul Saga and the world gets a soft reset, maybe even another stat squish. An even bigger one than before.
I hope you’re completely wrong about that.
Unless we’re like Pikachu where our power level gets reset with each new region we travel to…
Tovi the forums are so boring right now ugh. We need someone to start a fight again.
Right? I might need to take some people off ignore and poke 'em with a stick.
To be fair, this did happen in Dragonflight, the Primalist Incarnates straight up say in the leadup to Aberrus that they couldn’t beat us without outside help. Gazlowe also makes a quip about it in the security WQ in Undermine.
You could go with the narrative that your main character is actually a new person, even every expansion, if you choose. WoW mostly uses the “silent protaganist” approach to the RPG, basically meaning your character doesn’t…say a whole lot, throughout the game, other than the expected “lets get the bad guys!” or whatever. You’re basically the un-named hero
