I’ve been “casually” trying to get the Thistleleaf Adventurer (pet from Val’sharah emissary quests) for about 3-4 years now, the last 1-2 years of that a MUCH more concentrated effort.
All told, I’m now around 840+ attempts on this pet, and it still won’t drop.
On every site that tracks any data, it shows it as a mere 1% pet. Statistically speaking, it would be just this side of impossible that I not have this by now.
This wouldn’t be the first time that a drop was bugged, so at what point do I admit this is a real issue worthy of a ticket, and that I’m not just the victim of … a COSMIC streak of bad luck?
Even the posts on Wowhead, people are lamenting a mere 300+ tries. No one is even remotely close to the pull count I have for this thing. >(

I had a similar time getting the Wondrous Wisdomball
I never bother to count, but I was opening Kirin Tor caches for years before I finally got the pet
I probably haven’t pulled it out twice since. Amazing how we can invest so much time in something we ultimately don’t care about
And FWIW, there should not be any non combat pet. I’d love to send Khadger’s disembodied head into PVP pet battles just to watch him die for every time I opened up a cache and din’t find him. It would be poetic justice.

That’s grotesquely bad luck on the Thistleleaf Adventurer. You should have had that long ago. I don’t know what kind of RNG system would allow that.
I also share the grief over Wondrous Wisdomball. Been trying for that on a host of alts for years, yet nothing. Just disheartening.
It sure seems so. Since there’s no official data on it, we only have Wowhead to pull from. And all the posts there feel like it’s a 1%, maybe slightly less than 1% drop.
Which is typical for all rare items.
So I really don’t want to clog up the ticket system with reporting something “just because I have bad luck”, but this seems like an actual bug.
I understand statistics. I understand that doing 100, or even 110 pulls on a 1% drop doesn’t guarantee you the item.
But more than 800???
If you’re not good at math, the actual probability of that is 0.000291%.
This HAS to be a bug.
I’ll wait until the next Emissary and do a few attempts, but after that, I’m going to report it. I should have done this at 300 attempts. ;(
Well you might be in luck if we are getting the Legion Remix then you’ll be able to just buy the pet with coins like we collected in MoP remix…so keep fingers crossed we do get Legion remix this year…

How hard would it be to check the function? of the possible drop, would you suppose?
If I understand you correctly, there is no way to check it.
We would have to know the ACTUAL drop rate of the item and, to my knowledge, Blizzard doesn’t release that data.
We, the players, extrapolate it based on player-submitted feedback (mostly on Wowhead). So when people post their kill-counts and it goes along the line of (sic) 50 kills, 35, 70, 60, 20, 77, 43, 110, and of course the guy that got it on his first try, it seems fair enough to assume it’s a 1% drop.
Also because, as I said in the OP, a HUGE number of things in WoW have a 1% drop rate. It’s basically the “default” drop rate for rare items in the game.
But there’s no way to know FOR SURE what it is.
Unless you mean something else?
Somewhere in the code there’s a Blizzard-defined number that’s used to define a player’s chance of getting a drop like this. It’s assumedly figured in with the RNG odds that are calculated at the time. That number can be changed, either accidentally or on purpose, making its Wowhead history irrelevant.
Brocknor’s experiences sure sound like something, somehow, got adjusted.
I don’t know that “irrelevant” is the right word. As, historically, I don’t think these numbers really change. Because of that, the data is “invaluable”, not “irrelevant.”
Of the literally thousands of items I have collected over the years, I can only think of 3-4 that have had their drop rates adjusted. It just doesn’t really happen.
Not on purpose.
Similarly, I can only think of 3-4 times that a bug has affected drop rates, but … it has happened!
I’m 100% convinced that is the case here. What I’m experiencing is statistically impossible for any “normal” drop item. I mean, absolutely nothing in the game has a drop rate this low. Not even Tusks of Mannoroth… and I even own those (the original ones before Remix)!
