At what level do world drops happen in chests?

are you talking about original vanilla-tbc-wrath?
if so then you are mistaken about “not lose subs for their entire durations”

ofc statics shows that players numbers was rapidly increasing from 2005 to 2010 But this doesn’t mean it didn’t lose subs, (i as a player who played original vanilla can tell you for sure that game lost thousands of thousands of players in late 2006 when servers was crashing every 10min because they removed the required ranking to get r14 gear, i know multi guilds quitted at start of tbc) but the reason game was increasing in numbers is because it was getting more players than the numbers game was losing.

any game can be fun but many factors can kill the fun out of any game
you might be carefree, playing as if the world on your own not caring about what so ever and just enjoying what you do but then the defile of ugly bad design which lead to abuses will still gets to you, effecting your game play.

let’s start with,
Blizzard side!

  • environment bugs that people abuse to solo dungeons, escape threat and more.
  • forced glitchs that allow people to steal tags even when it’s not their own tag already.
  • no support at all to solve issue you encountered
  • trash system called layers which doesn’t increase server capacity but it only make people abuse it when they keep switching to ruin the gameplay for others in questing/ganking/farming, it’s not longer just a one world for us all with this layers.
  • many changes that didn’t exist in original vanilla.

farmers side

  • boosts at every direction, no one want to run anything…they just buy leveling boost / dungeon gear boost.
  • service for whatsoever…you can buy boss’s kill / bop items and you buy summons to anywhere, no one even go to dungeons if they want they just buy summons.
  • old auction is designed to be molopoly and so it is monopolyed
  • bots and gold selling is huge in classic, this game is a heaven for real money traders.

players side

  • half classic players are raid loggers because nothing else to be done in game.
  • people hire others to do pvp ranks for them, Blizzard is clearly aware of this but they don’t care, people pay others to login their accounts and join bg’s.
  • people doesn’t even play this game for the game they play to obtain, and so they are too selfish hard reserving anything without caring about others.
  • some people are insane about the achievements aka numbers “yes there is no a chievments in classic but what i meant with a achievements is” logs parsing / speed, the pve in this game become just a metric ground instead of something to share doing with others.

i can list many reasons that show how wow classic turned into abomination, in-fact it was always such a poor game with poor design and bad balance But as i said in my original comment that is “only people who are clueless about classic can enjoy playing classic” the reason this game was considered very good 20years ago is because most people back then was total noobs and ignorant people, but once they realize how trash the game is…they just quit.

The issues with classic are mainly on anni servers, it’s AFK culture. Boosting and afking in AV, Hitting 60 and wanting to AFK while getting any prebis they can. Most of these people play the game 1hour a week but are always online

In this context I would laugh. Y’all have zero sense of humor

This is so true. Classic literally exists for the 20% of the population that might buy the next retail expansion. That’s it

It’s a marketing tool for retail. They don’t make a dime off classic.

If the classic population was on steam charts… it would be a gigantic flop lol. Literal Indy games get more players
