At this stage of the expansion, what do folks think are the best professions to get into and try to master?

Topic kind of says it all, i’m just wondering what professions folks are doing or starting at this stage of the expansion. What will generate the returns of Gold necessary for all of the goodies in the game?

For me personally my question is what professions am I still spending gold on and the answer is alchemy: health potions, tempered potions, and flasks, so I make my own stinky alchemist and save all that gold now.

For purely utility, Alchemy and Engineering is the best and is what my main is. Alchemy has a wonderful perk of doubling the duration of your flask from 1 hour to 2 hours. Engineering has a Goblin Glider Back and Nitro Boost Belt modification as well as many utility items such as jumper cables and wormholes.

For making gold off of crafting professions this late it’s going to be hard because you’re going to need to be able to craft items at max quality and that will require some time investment with Knowledge Points. You will get up to 3 catch up Patron orders that provide 1 KP each a day (refreshes with daily reset).

I make most of my crafting gold because I have every profession maxed and have nearly every recipe so I’m usually busy crafting items.

It really depends if you want to spend your day sitting in dornogal spamming trade chat for gear crafting tips.

If not, alchemy and enchanting.

I’ve been liking Alchemy, both for my own use and because I can craft a bunch of flasks, post them on the AH, and come back to gold in the mail (usually, anyway).

Herbalism and Mining have also made me fair gold across all my alts - I mine and herb while I’m travelling, or when I’m in between doing things. Mat prices have been falling, but I still make a few thousand gold just picking stuff up in between doing visons and delves.

For me is gathering professions. I ah w 8 to 10 characters that I do the 800g dailies so the best is to get gathering professions for all and sell the mats

Enchanting. Anything that produces a commodity used by all players will naturally have higher demand than a skill that produces only for one or two armor types. There will always be demand for mana oil. Everyone needs enchants. Most people don’t need plate armor.

When a new patch drops and everyone is enchanting new gear it’s harvest time for the enchanter.

Enchanting has no gathering skill, which is wild. Spend hours flying in circles gathering herb/ore or just do whatever and disenchant the rewards for mats.

Take tailoring, which also has no associated gathering skill to turn cloth drops into armor to disenchant and turbo-charge your material intake.

Your enchanter/tailor beyond making a bit of gold, can also keep all of your characters up to date with enchants and bags. Feels good.

But I feel like in order to craft, enchant or make flaks you to spend a ton of gold to level it. Gathering professions I hair do them as I am flying around doing dailies

I don’t even post in trade chat saying Crafter LFW, I just wait for people to post in trade chat I’m looking for X crafter to make Y item and whisper them that I can do it.

And as long as all mats are provided say tip whatever. Usually i get 1k-3k tips, sometimes I get 1 silver, some crazy people tip 10k+ (though it’s usually a rare pattern or Naxx stuff).

I’ll be honest the only professions that have ever truly served me where the gathering ones. That way you can make gold off of the people that fall into the trap of leveling the crafting ones.

You have sorta missed the boat on profs.

Crafting takes upfront investment that may never pay off. Gathering is free(*) but won’t really pay the bills. There will be one final spike in the value of mats when S3 comes out and then everything from TWW is donezo.

You’re better off doing weekly event stuff on multiple characters, and getting any easy vault slots to turn into gold.

I don’t really do Professions to make money, I do them more to save myself money and to match my Characters theme. Like this Warlock is a Tailor/Scribe to make his own clothes and staves.

Most of my Alts are Alchemy / Engineer

Alchemy is good at saving money - flasks last longer and you can make your own flasks and potions. I make Rank 2s for myself but Every now and then I use concentration to make Rank 3s and sell those for extra gold.

Engineering is good for the worm hole. It’s nice to get around with.

Just to add to this. Now is the best time to try the new crafting system if you’ve never gotten into it. Mats are abundant and cheap enough to learn the ropes for when Midnight launches.

Thank you for the reply.

Thank you to all of you for the replies, i always learn some good things from these questions about professions and how to make some more Gold, i appreciate that.

Sure, I could have worded that differently but in either of those scenarios, you’re still sitting in Dorn to interact with trade chat.

And that’s fine if you like that. I was just saying that if someone doesn’t want to do that, then they can still make good gold with enchanting and alchemy and no trade chat.

Do you want a part time low paying job and are willing to invest a bit of time and gold (money) up front just to get started, if so, crafting may be for you.

If not, approach it as anything else in game, take your time - learn the ropes, see what works for you and adjust.

Different professions have different play-styles - some more passive, some more active, some more reliant on watching trade all day - not to mention some will be more appealing and relevant to your own goals and playstyle in game.

And none involve putting in little effort over a short duration to generate a lot of gold - they require spending time and investing gold (or just burning up a lot of mats that could be sold for gold) to build up.

Blow all the Kej, Resonance Crystals and garbage currency on the leatherworking supply caches the vendors sell. The other crap doesn’t sell for as much as it used to, like tinderboxes and stuff, so I stopped doing Delves as like a gold grind, I just straight gather while digging for wax globs. Also don’t do every chore the glob spawns, like if it does the one where you shoot up into the air or it makes you juggle or w/e, just skip it, waste of time.

I do a Neltharus farm also. It breaks up the monotony. People are still buying Dragonflight mats, I have no idea why, crafting I’m guessing. It’s probably like 1,000g a run? Somewhere around there.
Nokuud might be a decent farm because you can fly straight out of the dungeon, but IIRC it doesn’t have elementals in it.

I should level fishing but it might be too boring for me.

There are also secret tmog farms. These ones are way more RNG, but the pay offs are dramatically higher but you have to actually know where to go and what to look for. Uldaman has one. There’s a Mara set too that I’ve literally never seen anyone with, the only reason I have it is because I went crazy trying to farm a BoE tmog. There’s a reason they sell for so much lol.

I’m not actively sitting in Dorn doing nothing all day however. I’m usually already filling guild orders and see someone post in chat, or I’m in queue for something like PvP or just waiting on friend/guildie to come online to do something together.
