Title.
Just got my 7/7 Mage Tower achievement tonight and the healer challenge was the most mentally exhausting one by faaar
…
- overtuned NPCs at the very start that “need” CC/very difficult to heal thru multiple of their abilities going off
- about 12-14 minutes just to GET to the final boss room (ugh)
- …another “mini-phase” just before the main boss that lasts around 2 minutes
…in all it seems to be about ~15 minutes before the “boss” fight even begins, and if you wipe for whatever reason it’s right back to square one and slogging thru another 15 minutes of repetitive, non-boss busywork
A wipefest is one thing, but an artificially long wipefest (due to excess RP, excess “phases”, etc) is another.
In all the other Mage Tower challenges you just zone in and “get straight to business” with the boss fight/spamming attempts to your heart’s content… but in the healer one you don’t even get to the boss to do a single attempt for 12-15 minutes
Please never design another long/drawn-out instanced encounter like this “End of the Risen Threat” challenge - it’s simply way too long, mentally exhausting, and just not fun. Keep these kinds of instanced solo challenges short, sweet, and to-the-point.

Hehe thank you
I’m still “licking my wounds” over here with the sheer amount of gold everything cost, probably 487-491k gold total for the 7 challenges after all was said and done

Not just the DPS-check featured in many of these encounters, but also the “gold-check” is pretty brutal if you can’t supply your own consumables or don’t happen to have a full TW set laying around in your bank (…unlikely if you never dabble in TW stuff).
That said, totally worth it though and not only because the mount is so cool/good-looking, just the sense of accomplishment felt good. Turns out it wasn’t “impossible” afterall once I put my mind to it and invested the hours/work/wipes to get there
As a side-note, I think we actually need MORE engaging, “challenging” solo content like this in the future imo (hint hint for any devs that might be lurking).
This type of “hard mode” solo content is refreshing/keeps me awake, tests my ability/reaction time, incorporates elements of strategy, and is… strangely addictive
Seriously, my playtime has basically been Mage Tower Mage Tower Mage Tower the past 3 weeks (not even an exaggeration!
) …and I barely touched Shadowlands at all this month directly because of the Mage Tower (…hint hint for devs/blues)
