Asus ROG Strix XG49VQ

I’m used to planning out my expenditures in order to afford some of the most powerful hardware out there. I spent $800+ on a monitor I probably didn’t need when gsync was first a thing. I still play on that same Asus monitor till this day, but I’ve been getting interested in upgrading from 2k-4k and from 27" to something in the 35-39" range. Then I stumbled upon this.

Asus ROG Strix XG49VQ. Super Ultra-Wide HDR, 49" 32:9 (3840 x 1080), 144Hz, Freesync 2 HDR, DisplayHDR 400, DCI-P3: 90%, Shadow Boost.

OMG, right!? But what’s the catch? Got $900-something? Not bad right? Pre-order for $899 from Amazon or Bhphotovideo. I finally found my upgrade!

Grats? Better have some beefy hardware to back that up though, 4k ain’t no joke.

Hmm, 1080Ti good enough? Or should I start saving for the 2080Ti?

Depends on what you play for a lot of games that borderline not pulling 60 fps.

Tests I’ve seen put 2080 and 2080 ti at the top of 4k ability.

Sweet. Probably not a bad time to consider the upgrade after I test how well my 1080Ti can handle the game I play. I actually don’t play alot beyond WoW, SC2, OW, Doom, & Wolfenstein.

It’ll probably do fine on those then, specially anything ID software related since vulkan runs AMAZING.

FYI that’s not a 4k monitor; it’s a 1080p widescreen. 4k is 3840x2160. The XG49VQ is literally half the pixels of true 4k.
