What macro assigns the target assist (default F key) to a specific character?
Example:
I press “F” and the groups main tank target becomes my target
I had another thread, but it was buried so I revived this one and I think I made it more clear as to what my goal is. I know Classic has no focus.
I tried the following / commands to assign my keybind F key to the desired target of target but they do not work. I just get the /help information.
/assist target
/target assist
/assist
/target
/assist is bound to F by default. This will target the target of your current target.
You may have an addon that is using the alternative version of the macro by supplying the Main Tank’s player name following the /assist, like so:
/assist tanksnamehere
In the game keybinds options you can find the setting for this default under “Targeting” > “Assist Target”

No add on as far as macros and UI. But you gave me an idea. Maybe I need to put the tanks name in the macro for every new group/raid. I was just putting /target, /assist target, /assist. Maybe I need to be specific to the character. I know the F brings up my targets target, but I wanted to bypass this and target their target directly. I could have sworn in Vanilla I used a macro to assign F to the main tank in dungeons and raids then I would just be hitting F after each mob died. I could be wrong. It has been a long time.
I know this is an old thread but maybe the info is useful to someone else or maybe you are still playing.
By doing this, you won’t need your tanks name in the macro. You just right click your tank and set as focus. each time.
