Assault question

Just out of curiosity, why did Blizzard change how assaults work, prior to now they were fill the bar then either a short scenario or kill the boss. My friend and I decided to go do the Covenant assault tonight and couldn’t for the life of us figure out why they went to a system similar to the current annoying WQ system, numerous steps that you have to dredge through.

What are you talking about? All the invasions have followed the same pattern.

In Legion you had to complete 4 of the invasion world quests before (if you were max level) you unlocked the final quest that had you do a scenario, kill some enemies and then the boss. Once done? You fly over and get your reward.

In BFA the faction invasions had you complete 4 world quests in a large area and once you completed those 4 quests you got to do a 5th quest where you crushed an invasion force or destroyed an airship etc.

Shadowlands now has you go to the Maw where you complete 4 quests (all placed quite close to each other) then complete a 5th quest killing the boss where you get a reward…

I’m referring to the 8.3 assaults, which, at least IMO were far better than this current iteration.

The 8.3 assaults were honestly garbage, but the fastest way to do them was to complete at least 4 of the world quests that were available (as completing them drastically filled up the bar) and then you killed the boss and got your reward…

You preferred those? Hmm … I can’t relate but I can respect.

I wish they would give more death’s advance rep instead of the covenant rep.

Even if the Legion and faction assaults were do 4 WQ, they still offered what, at least 6 different WQ and gave you a variety and choice, these are crap in that regards, you only have 4, don’t like any of the 4, well either do them or don’t do the assault. At least offer 6 different quests and have us complete 4, then you get choices. So much for their buzz phrase player agency.

The only ones who used the words “player agency” were players lol.

Time play metric

And Blizzard has this weird ability to take some that was fine WQ, Assaults (Legion/BFA) and make them worse

I guess experiences vary, but I have been clearing the SLs assaults much faster than the Legion or BFA versions.

Which really doesn’t support your point at all.

My only problem with assaults currently is that we haven’t had the necrolord one yet

It’s all about presentation and feel.

The one assault that I did (first one I think) had 14 steps. That FEELS like a lot.

In a “normal” assault you’d have 4 WQs that were typically 1 to 2 criteria each (kill X of these, and collect Y of those). So, in that sense, they were all broken up. For whatever reason, 4 separate 2 criteria WQs FEELS better than a single 8 step one.

Then, of course, there’s choice. With assaults you had to do 4 out of 5 or 6 WQs. So you could choose which ones you liked to do. The current system seems quite rigid in contrast.

Now, that said, the current ones much more cohesive. Since before you were out dilly dallying around picking random WQs that suit you and then “Go kill the boss”, from a story telling point of view, it just not as tight. Here, we’re defending a specific area, everyone is gathered up and focused on this tight zone, etc. In that sense, I think the modern assaults are better.

But mechanically, they feel much more rigid than the old ones.

Its 4 quest and a end boss rly not many steps lol

Umm, only the Nzoth assaults were like that.

The faction assaults in BFA and Legion assaults all were the 4 WQ style then last boss.

How is it a “time played metric” when the assault is contained in a super tiny area that makes doing the quests really fast?

Fill a bar. By doing assault wqs.

Now it’s dailies, potato po(tah)to.

Basically nothings changed so I am unsure of your complaint.

The only thing I didn’t like was being tossed to my death in DC land. After quite a few looping deaths, I had to use the self help to get back. It put me in Westfall. :confounded:

…is the state of players really so bad now, that unless they are given a progress bar they cant figure out how to do anything?

Literally open up your quest log and READ the quest, it tells you exactly what you need to do.

I don’t know about you guys but I did the assault that was assigned ,yet i had to do even more to top it off. Tell you the truth it’s totally confusing running all over the maw to finish it.

? You are given 4 quests. You do the 4 quests and the last quest starts. There is no top it off.
