Assassination rogue, trying to use Envenom

When I use the finishing move Envenom with Instant and Crippling Poison, I get the error message.
“You do not have Deadly or Wound poison active!”
Envenom still does damage, according to the combat log, and my poisons are still hitting the mob, but I get this message every time I use Envenom.

I do not get the error message if I have either Deadly or Wound poison equipped.
There is, as far as I can see, no text in the Envenom description that says it requires or recommends either poison, but it’s quite insistent about the error message.

No idea what error you are indicating

I can’t post neither screenshot nor a link in this sh!t forum

but maybe you can view the file on imgur: /a/sXGNDGt

If you’re talking about wotlk then yeah im pretty sure you need deadly up to envenom. I think you might be able to cast it with any poison up on the target up in general, but I can be wrong. Don’t really play sin in classic.

That SS looks like live. You can use envenom without deadly, it just does less damage. What I’m confused about is how you’re using instant poison? We don’t have instant poison as assassin. In fact, looking at your buffs it looks like you just have crippling poison on.

Looks like you just simply need to put deadly poison on.

Envenom does not require deadly poison to use, but one of the main reasons we get Eviscerate replaced for Envenom is that Envenom gives us a buff increasing our poison application chance by an additional 35% for a few seconds. That’s why it gives you an error, without Deadly (and/or Amplifying poison) you’re missing half the point of Envenom.

As Assassination, there’s virtually no reason to use Instant Poison once you can use Deadly Poison. Wound poison is used more for pvp if healing reduction isn’t applied from elsewhere. The error message would probably be more accurate to say you just need any lethal poison applied, but as I first said Instant Poison is pretty much made obsolete by Deadly Poison and the error message reflects that.

The only reason Instant Poison isn’t outright replaced in our ability book is for the possibility of skipping Amplifying Poison but still taking Dragon Tempered Blades which allows two lethal poisons to be applied at once.

We do. Bla

Instant poison is available like Xaethron confirmed.
According to WowHead the chance to apply instant poison does also increase after using Envenom. Makes the error message even more irritating.

@Vintorez Not sure how will be on max level, but right now mobs are dying to quick to utilize deadly poison to its full effect. Instant is just doing more damage over a short fight.

Apologies, yes it’s available to use, but it’s awful. Use deadly. Instant is attached to it anyway.

Edit: also it seems name changing removes ignores. Goodbye again xaethron.

The effect of Instant Poison is baked into Deadly Poison, every time you apply Deadly you get the same bit of immediate damage as Instant Poison along with applying the DoT.

I see. The error message must be an oversight because no assassination rogue would or should use instant poison at that point.

Usually it pops up when you just forget to put poisons on. Not that I’d ever forget to put poisons on. Never.
