I was wondering if any rogues had a optimal opener that they use or if it’s relatively pretty standard for every sin rogue?
Refer to Whysper’s guide on Wowhead and follow that exactly. It takes some practice to get the muscle memory, but once you have it down it’s second nature. Whysper also has videos on the subject.
Yeah, I have seen that. But his builds always seem very vanilla. I get he does his best to optimize, but he also seems to rarely update his guides. I sort of wish there were other options besides Icy Veins and Wowhead. I have looked into Method’s guide and also Ravenholdt. Was hoping to find something new.
Well, the purpose of these guides is to provide information about optimizing the spec. That’s why they all give the same information, which is based on SimC. Given a finite set of abilities, there will always be one build and one set of gear that nets the MOST DPS.
Having said that, players are free to adjust their build to suit their play styles as long as they understand the trade offs. There are no rules that say you have to only use a recommend build.
The purpose of a standard opener is to make sure you get all your DoT’s ticking and initiate your cool down cycles. This in turn helps stabilize the rotation. There’s really no need to deviate unless you have a specific reason.
yeah…I was just making a post to see other rogues opener and how it works for them rather than using a guides opener. I get these guides will be very similar with the rotation…but sometimes if you tweak a couple things you can do much better dps compared to just following the guides rotation. Plus they aren’t updated often.
They are updated when changes are made to the class, which isn’t often. Also unlike other classes, the rogue theory crafters have been at it for a really really long time and know the class inside and out
Yeah, I really think the rogue theory crafters can be a bit lazy. I was not looking for what Whispyr and pikabu or whatever his name is does. I was trying to get a pre opener rotation that a sin rogue found to be very effective. If I wanted to look at what Whispyr does I would read his guides which I have. I am not a big fan of his guides and find them very vanilla.
The thing is, these recommendations are very effective. The theory crafters aren’t lazy. They spend many hours running and tweaking simulations to determine the most effective openers and rotations to use. That’s why we all follow the guides.
The guides are update only if Blizzard makes changes that effect our DPS. Which isn’t often.
If you want to dig around a little, try looking at some logs on Warcraft Logs. Here’s an example:

See if anyone is doing something different.
Whysper’s guide is the go to opener. There isnt anything more effective. If you think it’s too vanilla, Rogue isnt for you.
