I have mained a Paladin for many years but I have a Hunter alt that I would like to main in Shadowlands. The one thing that I don’t understand is why Hunters are not more survivable in PvP. Maybe it’s unfair to compare to a Paladin (where my bias and experience have been for years) but when I get stun locked as a Paladin I can bubble or bop myself right out of it and continue to even dish out damage. With Aspect of the Turtle, no such escape, and even if I do manage to get it off (in between stuns) there is no attacking for the duration. If feels incredibly weak in PvP and very unbalanced. Another good example is the Priest’s Dispersion (also castable while stunned). Again, maybe that’s by design and/or maybe I’m so used to the Paladin’s play style. I would welcome at least one of these two changes…‘Castable while stunned’ or ‘Can attack during the Aspect duration’. Any thoughts?
Why hunters aren’t all that survivable in pvp? It’s because most of the hunters care about AoE and PvE. Whenever anyone brings up concerns about hunters in PvP, that person gets shut down by many many PvE huntards. So basically, we ourselves make sure we’re at the bottom. At the bottom since Cata.
Makes sense, I mained a Hunter last in BC and I felt like a God then. Sad that the class has moved in the direction you mentioned. Seriously gives me pause to play the Hunter at all.
Exactly. Look at the feedback on SL for hunters, they’ve been fighting there for a millennia to get 5% dmg buff off of hunters mark and they got it. But did the dmg get somehow given back? Of course not. So you see, they really are good at advocating for us to get nerfed. Look at all these people that give feedback, maybe only 1 out of 10 would be asking for changes in PvP aspect, and watch them get shut down by players that don’t even main a hunter or don’t even play a hunter. It’s just really an awesome and at the same time very sad picture to watch.
You survive in PvP by kiting, not by tanking damage
Yes, I agree that is the idea, but when the opener is a stun lock which if it doesn’t kill me, I can kite for a few seconds (unless I’m in Turtle) before the rogue is right on me again with Shadowstep…all the while getting nuked by the clothie. My point isn’t to negate the general idea that I need to kite melee, it’s just to at least give me a chance to do it!
You can’t directly attack while in turtle but you can disengage, feign+camo, traps, etc…
I really appreciate your pointers but all that you say is assumed as part of the toolkit that we use for PvP. Disengage with posthaste is great, but so easily countered by the slows and gap closers. Feign+camo…maybe it’s me but getting it to work is a very delicate operation that rarely works (but maybe I need to work on this). Traps, I always use to either cc the other player or to try to get the melee off of me. During Turtle, I can’t concussive shot (a staple of kiting) nor can I cast Intimidation. Asking for a slight tweak to the “Survival” ability of the class isn’t a big ask nor would it even make the class OP…it would just allow us to not start a match down in the hole.
Seems like you don’t like hunters honestly… this gameplay (pros and cons included) is part of the class. I think you’d preffer tankier classes (aka your paladin).
Watch some Jellybeans videos, he survives allright
You are exactly right. Until Blizzard gives a little love to this single ability, back to the Paladin for me. Thank you for helping me solidify my main pick for SL
That’s the point lol, blizzard don’t need to give a little love to hunters in this aspect. Hunters would be OP as hell with a bubble. Immagine being able to do Aimed Shot while immune to CC and dmg lol, doing it from Camouflage is already ridiculous enough.
Anyways, to each his own, If you want a tanky and more defensive class, yes, paladins are waaaaaaaay better than hutners.
Again, it’s just playstyle.
I think turtle overall is fine and our survivability is decent. The ability to kite, feign, sac, etc are pretty good.
I would like to be able to turtle in a stun though. If it was a shorter cooldown I’d say it’s fine as is. But on a 3 min cd I think we should be able to use it when we want. It’s generally 1 and done regardless.
I would rather less classes could do this rather then let us do it as well. Proactive abilities > Reactive abilities in regards to the health of the game.
5% bonus damage on Hunter’s Mark wasn’t actually 5% bonus damage. It meant you had a mandatory maintenance buff to do the damage you were balanced around. The recent BM nerf would have been 10%, with a 5% nerf to MM and SV as well, instead of BM alone getting a 5% nerf.
I honestly thought survival still seemed rather good in pvp from what I’ve seen, but to be fair others probably know more then me.
I agree with you just because it would actually create kill windows when properly set up. But since I don’t see them getting rid of any of the other abilities I’d settle for the same treatment at least lol
Do you remember when paladin bubble used to be purely defensive? You cannot attack during bubble. Paladins are the only class which can attack while being invulnerable. Every time I poly a ret paly during wings they just bubble… like “you are not going to avoid my burst!!”
Clearly hunter is not for you, during Aspect of the Turtle you can set traps and heal with mending if you are SV.
Hi I have been playing hunter for a while, just BM by the way. You have a valid point. We are a glass canon to some extent. It is difficult to survive a rogue opener. In many occasions, we cannot survive long enough to activate turtle. We just have to play defensively wherever we can.
I started to read through this one here but inevitably got to the part where someone starts regurgitating information they have read somewhere without really understanding what the actual message/point was to begin with. It seems like this happens with over 90% of the posts I see here on these forums.
Normally I would dive into all the reasons why that is just bad and things that can be done instead but I am sort of limited on time here tonight so I am going to skip all that and just (make an attempt) to be brief. Those of you who see and understand what I am talking about can go ahead and work on some solutions yourselves as it is always very much welcomed to give good quality feedback and constructive criticism, instead of the all too normal fact recital followed up with the different forms of either chest puffing or hoots and howls that all I can guess are meant to distract instead of what should be happening and that is informing.
Now I would like to address this turtle issue that was posted by the OP. First of all, if you have been playing BM at all since the prepatch in Bg’s (I don’t know how you would be able to in arena atm but I am sure some have), then you know that your turtle now had become not your only real sort of defense but instead it is your extra button you need to have in order to rez your pet, heck we mightg as well go ahead and start macroing them right in there together !
This is pretty much the same thing with any other sort of content where your pet takes damage , I know that if I am anywhere near Rexxars hut in my 5 masks and turtle is not up then I am not going to complete the run because those mobs OUTSIDE THE BOSS will take my full health clefthoof to dead in what seems to be 3 maybe 4 GCD’s. These are just what is really going on and not some stories made up or something that I have read somewhere and an am, quoting you all back. So, my suggestion to everyone is get out there and do some of these things and see for yourself just what I mean when I say, that turtle is no longer a defensive and never was a great one to begin with. I am done asking blizzard to fix their crappy mistakes so please, someone else do it this time. !
In summary, I agree that we should have some other sort of defense(s) especially no that we almost always are gonna need to keep turtle for the rez when our pet dies. But I do have to say that despite this glaring issue that we have, I have yet to see any BGH that I have been in this week and last (mostly AV for Korraks) where the top isn’t mostly us hunters, usually all MM and me the lone BM but still hunters no less.
To be honest this is not a good reason to get another defensive. This is a different problem entirely that needs to be solved by either giving us tools to keep our pets alive (preferred) or just reverting back to the 2 sec rez timer.
