Asking for help with affliction warlock as a person unfamiliar with warlocks

hay so i just got my warlock to 60 and have been playing affliction warlock for most of it, im enjoying the spec.

however im worried that im not doing as much DPS as i should, i understand its because you have to apply all your DOTs to get the most out of the damage you can do with Malefic Rapture and using soul rot from the fairy covenent to get a good AoE drain life going.

again however i feel that im under preforming, is this just because of how affliction warlocks work? only do decent damage against a boss and can’t do much against trash mobs? or am i just not building right?

Are you speaking in a raid or dungeon context?

yeah what environment are we talking about here because answers may vary greatly

and you dont use the aoe drain life from soul rot unless youre running inevitable demise.

ok, for context im wanting to do both dungeons and raids, however right now im noticing my lack in dungeons and i know that if im lacking in dungeons i will lack in raids.

but i have read that right now Affliction warlocks don’t do so well in dungeons or raids.

theyre not bad but not great. you basically just run Decaying Soul Satchel and Sow the Seeds and spam out seed of corruption with Dreamweaver. thats about the extent of aff’s aoe.

it works a bit different in raids - raid is less about burst aoe usually, and most fights arent 30-40s so there is a chance for aff to get rolling, but its still pretty mediocre

What level of M+ are you doing and do you have any tier?

thats the worst part, im under preforming in normal or it feel that way at any rate.

Get good at multi-dotting the trash mobs before you use soul rot. It’s faster than seeding.
If your soul rot is down, concentrate fire on the most powerful mob once everything is dotted .
Don’t stress your dps meters on low dungeons. You will always lag behind the classes that can kill faster there.
You will make it up on bosses.

I see so affliection warlocks shine at boss killing cause they can focus on them, good to know, when dotting, should i focus on just using agony on trash mobs? cause it can give me my soul shards?

I don’t consider myself pro level at all, but I like running the talent that makes corruption permanent. You can get more dps out of talenting into agony, but having a corruption dot that goes away only when the mob dies is really nice. I have died in raids and watched my corruption last the whole fight.

Hate to break it to you but atm Affliction single target damage is likely the worst it’s ever been in the past 5+ years.

yeah figured as much, but i don’t mind as long as i can do mythics alright, not top teir ones just like the base level
