Ashran Possible Exploit

So to put it frankly, I queue’d for a couple random Epic Battlegrounds and kept getting Ashran.

I remembered around a month ago about a player in a Bg saying that the Alliance can go around an out of bounds area and go straight into the back of the horde base. I decided to test this myself.

I found that some players (Such as Rogues and Warriors) Can grappling hook or heroic leap up the rocks to the back of the base, there’s a few cracks you can run up and don’t need a movement ability, but most importantly, the “out of bounds” trick works.

Regardless, I tried this tactic by myself, and as you could imagine I was soundly killed by the gladiators, I had made it to Volrath and lowered his health by about 100k after using all my defensives.

“Well there’s no way this is possible, right?”, is what I seemingly thought, so I kept trying, and while I didn’t get close, I noticed his health didn’t heal up, at the end however we lost.

So, I went on to my next bg after we lost that one, and got Ashran again, I decided to tell my team about it and had a group of around 20 people following me into this area, we went all the way into the Horde “Keep” and killed Volrath, in under 5 minutes we had won the EBG.

I’m posting here because I feel what I’ve just done was an exploit, however, further checking Ashran reveals that I the Horde can also do this to the Alliance. I’d love to get a Blue’s insight on this.

I don’t know the validity of this all, but I feel it should be said that someone should say something about this.

Not an exploit. It’s well known, both sides can do it. Easy to defend.

Ah, alright, I was just making sure because it did feel a little scummy.

Running on the rocks and jumping just at the water’s edge for the most part. When you hit the boundary just before the back gate the system flashes a warning.

You can also enter the Horde base from the east side.

it’s so easy to defend teams need to stop trying. everyone thinks they are a tactical genius by going back door, the problem is it only takes one player to spot you and issue a recall, and it only takes 1 or 2 smart players to wipe your whole team while you are in their base.

100% this ^^^

That’s a fact. Even though the game doesn’t announce it happening, experienced players can sense it coming based on numbers, who they don’t see, location of certain focused players, etc. And of course a good lookout or even accidental sighting. Portal scroll and target the right players and it all falls apart.

There’s a ton of terrain glitches in all the BGs, though. There’s places you stand and Venthyr teleport. Places a druid can flight form for a few seconds, etc. And I only know the druid things, I’m sure there things for every class.

I spent the entire WoD in Ashran gearing all my toons and it was maybe the most fun I’ve had in WoW or any other MMORPG. I used Merc mode and played both sides. Premade vs Premade when possible. Just wanted to share my bonafides.

I wonder sometimes as Alliance stupidly attempts back door strat if the real objective is to end the match ASAP with either a quick win (which PUG non premades rarely achieve) or a quicker loss i.e. throwing it.

Most of the folks screaming to do this don’t really even know what it means other than thinking it is a “free win”. They proceed to split the team then run right past the Horde crowd hustling to RoC. DOH!

Blasphemy! Traitorous! But it was fun, yes?

Sadly many of the BG’s certainly seem that way. It is the “all or nothing” approach when they don’t want to put forth the effort or time to win. Then there is the inevitable “You alliance guys suck” and “WE should have…” when things unravel.

Nah, when either side wants to end it quick, they just feed the opposition kills. Back dooring is usually last attempt to win before giving up totally. Some pugs often will yell that they want to back door. I’m not a fan of it, I come to pvp.

Never backdoor Volrath without at least 3-4 people on the team having Protection Scrolls. You will not survive long enough to get the kill. You’ll usually want to get ROC control if you desire the resources required to pull this off properly.

Never backdoor Volrath without waiting for the Horde team to push down road with Kronus (if they have it). If they’re as far south as Alliance’s F1, it’s theoretically not possible for a non-premade Horde team to get back to Volrath in time before he’s dead, even with a callout to return to defend him. That’s an entire minute to return and then push past prison wands in the doorway.

All this being said, if even one person on either team notices something feels off with the headcount from the enemy team, or uses the BattlegroundEnemies addon, they’ll notice it far faster and call for an immediate defense, which WILL give them enough time to defend.

Default strat should be ROC control, at least the front cleared for toys, then either a road push or if you have coordination to not waste scrolls and prison wand charges, -attempt- a backdoor.

Edit: Overall, backdooring is a hit or a miss, unless it’s brawl week. Backdoor is almost guaranteed to work if you wait for the enemy team to be in your base before you go to Vol/Trem, at least during Classic Ashran. On the contrary, backdooring is guaranteed to NEVER work if you go for it immediately right out of the gate. Never listen to anyone that tells you otherwise, because you have to hope your team can survive what is essentially 8 gladiators AOEing you in a small room ontop of a 50% mortal wounds debuff from Vol/Trem. And on average, a team won’t survive that even with tanks.

100% agreed bud. Nobody knows Ashran like Karie and Oat.

Backdooring is actually easy now because Vol is nothing compared to our current gear levels.

i don’t know about Vol, but Trem does have some issue where if you pull her without capping F5 she will evade and go immune. depending on what causes this, it effectively makes backdooring an ally only strat.

Yeah, Ally doesn’t need flags to backdoor. You just win the ROC fight and go straight to his hut. Don’t get much reward that way but it is fast if that is what people want.
