Ashes of Creation. The next WoW killer

I am confident that he knew that. It was just a very low quality troll attempt.

223 comments and you are still here adding and likely to continue to add. Seems successfull high quality

This will be f2p in two months after the release

I agree. Makes sense seeing where blizzard is heading with WoW

Even with a PVE Server they are destined to fail.

Besides that how do you make a PVP MMO with a PVE server? The entire basis of the game is PVP. There is no dungeons, there is no raids. Or very few, if any, and not that hard.

However there is only 3 ways for it to Go.

The way of Archeage, The way of GW2, and The Way of WOW.

The Way of Archeage:
Superpower guilds and players take over servers, causuals leave as they are bad at the game and it becomes apparent when they dont get welfare. The server dies.

Archdale creates new servers, with a sudden rush of players. The causuals still in denial, that they are bad, come back to try again “I will be a super player this time, I will be decked out 1 shooting noobs”. This doesn’t happen as at the end of the day, they just aren’t good and instead of improving or trying to learn the game, they blame outside factors. They leave again, and the HC follow again. Until the Next Fresh start, where the cycle of life carrys on.

The Way of GW2.

Gw2 took the approach of stripping gear from reawrds for hard content. Instead of recieinv the power you receive cosmetics and status, gear is normalized, balancing while not perfect is probably the best of any MMO.

People get bored and leave from this. There is no power progession, and no “Broken” time for you at a gear level, or at a class/spec level. You have to look inward and realize that your personal skill is to blame for you not achieving there is nothing to blame it on, and no carrot to chase that might make you better, because its not you thats bad, it’s outside factors.

People don’t like this reality check, or get bored without a carrot. And thus they leave.

The Way of WOW:

WOW provides a pretty juch Constant FS from Archeage whether there seasons and tiers. Peoples power is reset, the carrot is never ending. Bad players have a never ending supply of things to blame there bad play on. Gear is handed out to trash players as welfare, so the bad and casual players can feel special. The Elitists can have a feeling of superiority, but not to a level can that can get out of control.

This leaves, everyone feeling screwed over, but just the right amount of screwed as everyone gets a little of what they need, but not what they want.

This game is claiming a lot of pve content though.

Most PvP games that are RPG based don’t do too well usually because the PvP just isn’t good and/or the penalties are too severe.

Well i used blizzards wording, so ya there is actually.

More people were paying for subs and playing classic, and mot retail (or whatever play split metric they used).

Yes but in what context? They all claim that, but a Rare spawn WB that is a epic PVE encounter that requires you to at the same time fight off the other teams of PVP players, is still PVP.

There is PVE content with the PVP backbone. The complete opposite of WOW which has PVP content with a PVE backbone.

No, they’re talking dynamic pve encounters including instanced pve, watch the video.

PvP with no clear objective also ceases to be entertaining after a while, at least for most people.

I have not kept up to date recently, but thats the first I am hearing of Instanced PVE.

Thats cool of its good and attracts that audience.

However, the Devs of Ashes are not Mythic Raiders like Ion, they are all PVP KR MMO players, exclusively. So the point still remains, it will be PVE content on a PVP backbone.

If you think PVP mmos have no clear objective then you have never played a PVP mmo.

I think they’re trying to balance it FOR the fact that they know if they only attract “pvp bros” they will end up with a dead game.

Not entirely, but many of them don’t.

Archeage at Launch had more players than WOW. Granted thag was during WOD, and WOD was trash but still.

The issues came as the months went on, not at the start of the game. Greed and lack of tiered resets killed AA.

And I don’t just mean personal objectives, but also game advancing ones.

I mean, name one successful pvp based MMO since DAoC though, you have to attract a mix of the two.

They all do. I have played pretty much all of them.

Usually the objective is the same as Wows.

Since Ashes shares alot of ties with Archeage as it is the PVP MMO mecha of this Gen. We will use that.

Gear is gotten in AA with gold and from WBs, the top end WBs drop the best loot (some of the prices anyway). The WBs are rare spawns and have to be fought over.

The other way Gold, one of the best ways to get gold is pirating. Another good way to make gold is selling Honor, both of which are PVP activities.

By game advancing. I assume you mean how Raids advanced the story? Not everyone wants to be “The one” or live under the constant meaningless end of the world. People complain about WOWs “Advancing” all the time. It gets old.

Why can’t it just be a long snapshot, or be more realistic where life just keeps going on? Why can’t you use your imagination to advance the game and RP what you want it to be?

Oh i agree, as much as I loved AA, the PVE content that was super cheese and I could glitch into walls to EZ kill, was lame.

I’m not saying that they should out PVE, I am just saying if they do, it will still be a PVP backbone with PVE content, the polar opposite of wow. So in that instance, PVE servers don’t work.
