Ashes of Creation looks Amazing

Their developer team is showing us what wow could and should be.

They are actually listening to their feedback about their game and will change it based on what their community thinks.

Blizzard on the other hand doesnt care and constanly tries to force this system onto us and change it later on in a patch.

Blizzard make covenants easily swappable and fix Guardian, Shadow, Feral, and Frost dk.

Sure Ion lmao. Really won’t matter no ones wants to play SL.

Never heard of the game before this but that was an impressive interview. Dude was in a car and gave more concise, in depth answers than we’ve seen Ion give with weeks to prep. That guy is passionate as hell about his game. I think there’s a huge positive to having people in charge that actually want to play their own game.

Hope the game does well. No idea if I’ll play it, but more MMORPGs are always a good thing

Exactly, then we’ll wait until patch 9.1/9.2 and they’ll say “we’ve been looking at feedback and will change it”.

AoC looks promising. I’ll be checking it out once it launches for sure.

A $75 minimum preorder seems almost sketchy to me for a game that isn’t even in beta yet.

No they won’t they will wait till at least 2 years into it before they will change anything like all Xpacs. Then I lmao cause people say “”" they’re listening to us “”""

It’s definitely too good to be true. Loved everything that was said, but all of that content sounds like 15 years of development time. And dude was giving me serious Peter Molyneux vibes. I’d love to be wrong though.

I’ve seen what happens when people glorify new MMOs that aren’t even out yet. Prepare for disappointment.

Not trying to trash on them as it seems like a lot of work has been put into it so far compared to other startup MMOs, but for $75 I’d need to see a lot more work done. The graphics in the video seem to be around Guild Wars 1 quality also, which only cost $20 at the time of full release iirc.

What is their payment model for the game?

If it’s free to play count me out. I won’t bother.

15$ a month but that’s it, gives you the game and all future content with just a sub. That said blizzard can’t really combat mmo’s like this because its all being 100% funded by a super rich young guy who retired at 29 and as he said he doesn’t want his game being run by a board of suits like companies with shareholders.

Would be a shame if they try to make a multibillion dollar game right out of the gate and end up going over budget because no one wants to foot the bill. I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

We’re really just tossing the word amazing at anything that isn’t wow just out of spite now?

Sad days.

I agree, I will pay money for a game not even out of Alpha!

Not entirely fair on the graphics; the lighting/shadows and water textures are definitely better, but the terrain and objects need improvement.

I do like that the bear mount in an alpha build looks more realistic than a twice fixed bear animation in WoW :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Subscription + cosmetics shop + a hefty initial pledge if you want alpha/beta early access. So, basically same as WoW. But they’re at least honest about it: this is what it costs to make the kind of scope they’re making, especially from scratch. They’re having a big hiring call right now because they know they need to ramp up for alpha/beta, so it’s not just excuses to pocket the money either.

The founder is a retired 29 y/o tech millionaire. The game is basically his dream project.

It’s never gonna be a WoW killer though. It’s a completely different kind of MMO. WoW is a story driven instance dungeon/raid character optimization focused theme park. Ashes is a community building/warring sandbox with PvE thrown in, a 2020 take on Ultima Online, if you will.

Beyond both being fantasy MMORPGs, They’re not targeting the same audience, at all. Ashes is gonna be more niche than WoW, and they know it. They’re not building it to replace WoW.

I was invited to AOC Alpha in the second round of invites so it has been a very long time now that I have been participating. It isn’t a bad game and many will enjoy it but it certainly will not threaten WoW, not even close.

Again, I am not saying anything bad about AOC as I have hopes it will mature into something really good. I got involved with it as a result of a few developers from Asheron’s Call joining the project. That was my favorite MMO and one I was heavily involved with. So it was something I was interested in from the beginning.

Had to google that. Lets see.

“What you create will be the cornerstone of the next explorers ambition” …yeah not my cup of tea.

I get that WoW likes to “borrow” things from other games but in the end. I like WoW for being WoW. It shouldn’t push too hard to be like another game. Folks can just go play the other game if they want.

However I do think WoW got a bit lazy with such little competition. So it’s nice to see games like this or final fantasy possibly spurring them a bit to improve.
