Ashbringer

Who thought it was a good idea to remove the most iconic weapon from Season of Discovery?

A lot of people came back to SoD or even started SoD with the idea of getting the Ashbringer in NAXX.
We have been playing this game for over a year and they just now want to tell us they are removing it from the game so an NPC can sit in the EPL with it.
I dont think they are going to give it to us next phase either, its going to be a quest item that:

NPC A has, but oh nooo hes evil but we beat him in a fight and we are to weak to hold it!

GOOD THING NPC B IS HERE and can clease it for them to Stand at Uther grave with it!

I have 0 faith they are going to do a good job with The SC raid now.

prediction:

Its going to be Wrath Tyr’s Hand with a demon final boss guarding KT’s urn, but oh no we cant destory it bc Arthas shows up last sec and stops us! Golly gee!

NO Ashbringer for players
NO Death Knights
Only let downs.

P.S. If any Devs see this, why did you put a Dragonflight model in classic with Blade of Inquisiton. No one wanted this and it was a terrible choice. It doesnt match anything this phase either. Absolute 0 IQ weapon design.

The removal of Ashbringer is probably my biggest disappointment of SoD. Like many others, I have been waiting for over a year to finally get to Naxx so I could get it.

They pretty much had these options:

  1. Corrupted Ashbringer drops in Naxx just like it did in Era. No option to cleanse it. It’s just another raid weapon.

  2. Corrupted Ashbringer drops in Naxx just like it did in Era. A questline opens up during the Scarlet content to cleanse it.

  3. Ashbringer is no longer a player-usable weapon.

Although I think it would be really cool if it were cleansed (harkening all the way to OG WoW where it was datamined), I never believed they would go this route since it is a major lore weapon at this point.

Personally, I prefer the Corrupted version since it is only available in classic. We’ve already had the real deal in Legion so the corrupted version feels more special.

A cool middle ground would have been a combination of 1 and 2. Loot Corrupted, cleanse it in future content. You could then make it like Truthbearer or Benediction (On Use effect to wield either).

Instead they go with the worst possible option and just remove it. I don’t know they would do this. They know how much the player base loves the weapon. Hell, Aggrend himself has the Ashbringer lore event that takes place in SM on his youtube channel. He obviously knows the community loves the weapon.

Why he would do us dirty like this I will never know.

The only mention of this is from Zirene on twitter. Someone asked him about it and he made a joke about “someone looting it before us”. The only other mention is him taunting another player saying its a big “w” we get to see some rando NPC wielding it.

I’ll never understand how some people derive pleasure from pissing others off. But hey, just keep developing the game for yourselves, not the paying player base.

I started playing paladin because of corrupted ashbringer and this is destroying me, this makes no sense and feels like a Bad joke.

I don’t care what is Your plan for corrupted ashbringer I Don’t want to wear the purified one, just give me the item that has been in the Game since classic vanilla.

No t3 recolors and You still dare to remove corrupted ashbringer? Twow is calling soonier than i thought

the devs wanted this.

and it so happens they decide, not us.

Agreed. Massive L for SoD

Probably because it’s a legendary weapon (lorewise not pixelwise) that should have really never dropped in classic to begin with and in it’s purified form would only be favored for a class that is on one faction? SoD isn’t classic WoW, it has changes - I mean the answer is pretty obvious here why they did it. The horde doesn’t have paladins. While I wanted this for my pally too, it makes total sense… they didn’t make an Ele Shaman version of Atiesh too for similar reasons (even though paladin tanks got to use thunderfury).

They obviously have plans for it in Tyr’s Hand, it’s a bit too early to get outraged.

We literally kill the guy using the weapon, watch out.

I’m aware of that. I’m saying that it was a mistake. They clearly went a different direction in WotLK and on.

You’re allowed to disagree though.

They can drop the corrupted in naxx and drop/ make every they want with the cleansed ashbringer in next raid, no need to remove the first one. Having corrupted and cleansed in the same PHASE is not Even Smart

Could be an interesting storyline of the scarlet crusade that we are ‘cooperating with’ in naxx steal it from us and bring it to the scarlet raid as a story based launch of the raid

It absolutely wont be cleansed because it wasn’t until the start of Wrath and SoD doesn’t go against the canon.
