As tank how i use trinkets vs rogues?

as i VDH vs rogues now is a little crazy, they have so many saps and they increase the duration so they can easy cap,
they have like so many ways to go back to stheal that is been hard for me to not let them cap,

was blizz intention with all extra sap and the extra second duration for rogues to be able to cap so easy?

how should i use the trinkets when they sap me?

Disclaimer: I’m noob.

  • Rule 1: Don’t hug the flag.

When I see dh sitting a mile away from the flag well that is the tank that knows the rules and so I don’t even try it. But if I see a DH hugging the flag, well that is a fellow noob and I can work with that. The key is the time between the cc and cap, rogue want short time between cc and cap and YOUR goal should be more time between cc and cap, that’s the name of the game. So if you’re hugging the flag, that made my job lot easier, sap you and wait for your trinket then blind you then immediately cap. If you’re sitting in the goldilocks zone, you don’t even need to burn trinket, the cc will end and you can interrupt the cap with incap.

  • Rule 2: call it out immediately.

Now you’re sitting far away from the flag, as soon as the rogue saps you, call it out before the rogue can sprint to the flag to cap it. Don’t trinket it, use you’re movement speed to get o the incap range and incap the rogue. Don’t fight at the flag, and don’t let the rogue shadowstep to you to sap you. You want to fight a million miles away from the flag, well technically it is not a fight, more of umm buy time till your team comes to you. Cheese him, get low and run from him, waste the rogue’s time. Seconds later when your team comes, the rogue will most likely burn vanish and then you can use your eyes and hunt the rogue down and go ham.

That’s all I got, but that’s how to deal with 60% of us noob rogues. But good luck dealing with the good ones.

When I’m fighting rogues I wait until they use a stun to trinket.

i was shadow melt and don’t know how he spot me =(

so he sap me, i trinket, send a glaive, and he just vanish /stealth, got i sap/stun and he capped the base…

i try to retake the base, and i got another stun or something at the time he is just spinning it… =( and well …

don’t a rogue have 3 stuns now? and 2 ways to go back to stealth if they are in combat?

Shadowmeld is weaker than the Rogue Stealth. Therefore, a Rogue will generally detect you before you detect them. But, he could have used the Potion of Heightened Senses, as well.

As for how to counter this. Generally, you’ll want to be a fair distance away from the flag. Within 30 yards so you can Throw Glaive. But, not too close where he can Sap and immediately start capturing the flag.

Now, I believe it takes 6s to capture a flag. I could be wrong. So, if it’s different this may not be true. Sap lasts 8s. But, you can get the PVP trinket set bonus to reduce that by 10% to 7.2s. Plus the boots for another 5% down to 6.8s. So, if you have even just the trinket bonus, the Rogue doesn’t have much time to run back to the flag to capture it. They’ll have to get you in a Blind. Which, you can then trinket. A stun is also possible. But, Kidney Shot(our longest stun) only lasts 5.4s with the trinket set bonus. So, they really don’t have enough time unless there’s some latency there.

What boots?

Don’t trinket sap, don’t trinket cheap shot.

If anything save trinket for blind/kidney, but it depends on if they can stealth/vanish to get a reset and sap you again.

Also get the crafted boots that add an extra 5% onto gladiator’s resolve. 20% reduction in CC duration.

If you played previous expansions, they used to show the progress bar of rogues capping flags. They need FULL sap or FULL blind while being at the flag in order to cap the flag. If you trinket one, you can still get blinded or vanish then sap again after a few seconds. So the trick is to not stand near the flag. Use throw glaive to disrupt. Just create a macro,
/startattack
/cast Throw Glaive
This will automatically throw the glaive to the enemy if there’s only one. However, not being able to see the progress bar will make people panic. Most players will just trinket everything due to panic and not really knowing what is happening. The only time you need to trinket is if you fight at the flag and you get blinded.

I believe these are them:

I still haven’t got them. You need to have someone craft them for you via the Crafting Orders. Unless you are a leatherworker and can craft them yourself!

what does /startattack does?

where that 20% reduction in cc comes from? i google it and found just the extra 5%

thanks guys =) i really appreciate this tips a lot!

Sorry, I made some mistakes in my other post that I corrected. 15% is the max for most classes/races. But, Orc’s racial “Hardiness” reduces stun duration by 20%. There might be others I can’t think of at the moment. But, yah. I don’t believe there is another item you can get to increase that passive to 20%.

You could look into potions. But, I really don’t know. Even see what potions from even previous expansions are usable at 70. Maybe there’s something like the old Free Action Potion that’s usable now.

didnt the % on the trinket set bonus get ninja nerfed recently? log in and look at yours… its not the same number it used to be =D

in any case just staying almost max range from the flag is most of the battle. save trinket for either KS or blind and make sure youre almost max range of somethign you can use to hit the rogue with to stop him capping.

like almost max range, but not quite, so you have some cushion/margin there.

The trinket bonus was nerfed in beta iirc. It used to be a flat 20% but got nerfed to 15% and the crafted brings it back up to 20%

my set of pvp trinkets say 10% less CC

…exactly. =/ still works tho, just have some distance from the flag. 25 or so yards

would fiery-brand prevent the rogue to go back to stealth? since is a dot?

It’s 10 percent on the trinkets and 5 percent on the boots.

It worked before any of this existed. The strategy doesnt require fc reduction set bonuses.

Max range. Harass with range to stop cap. Keep travel time of abilities in mind.

Knoc is right.

Cant say this enough though. Dont stand on the flag. Dont trinket the sap.

If theres two rogues / another stealth its not your fault. More or less nothing you can do.

Yes and no.

DoTs break stealth but they dont prevent it.

Being in combat prevents stealth from being activated, but rogues still have cooldowns like Vanish to force activate stealth regardless of combat state.

Damage over time is generally worth it but dont relax thinking it will prevent the rogue from sapping you if you also dropped combat.

Another point is to not give up. Rogues can make mistakes too. Mistakes that depending on your class you can capitalize on and either defend a base or prevent a capture.

The same way rogues capture bases from you, you can capture from them. Never give up.
