If your self worth hinges on a video game putting someone in it like “looks like” you, you have problems extending beyond the disorder.
If these stories are getting modified for Chinese clients then it’s an answer in itself that these companies aren’t allys of the LGBT community.
I mean when it comes to profit, companies won’t hesitate to show this community the door. Hence people call them out for it.
I am not talking about the companies though. I am talking about the individuals.

i personally dont care about anyone’s orientation/gender as long as they know how not to stand in fire.
you should try it 
honestly every single npc’s orientation should just be left all up in the air. that way everyones happy ; everyone can make their own assumptions based on their own bias if they want to lol.

Oh, I pay individual favors as much as I can. Except from EA or Activision. I don’t actually think it’s possible anymore for either, sadly. Maybe a few years ago when Blizzard still seemed to be blizzard but when they ‘scaled back’ HotS they killed the last team I felt genuine developer interest from.

Besides Cyberpunk–I’d still propose that some of the aspects of representation in that game (especially the notorious ad) are transphobic.
People peddle conspiratorial interpretations of devs’ intent on representation all the time–they tend to say “oh the corporation is just capitalizing off of woke culture”. I think this diminishes the fact that the devs are people who have interests and are fairly often LGBT themselves.

Ok that’s fair. It’s just something that bugs me. The whole “they just do that because…” “you just think that because…” entirely dismissing something out of hand. It’s a pet peeve.

Does it tho? As a PoC, if I were playing a game made by a developer who I knew wasn’t an ally and instead acting completely for the bottom line, but had customization that allowed me to make someone that looked like me
I wouldn’t think of myself as a checkbox there. If anything I would gleefully make myself out of spite.
Maybe I’m old enough to parse thru this though. A kid might not, but then again they wouldn’t be aware of just being a checkbox, hopefully.
I’m not disagreeing that it cant remind people, just that it is a rule.
