I heard that Roblox is malware central.

At the risk of sounding stupid, Roblox is what exactly?

It’s a game my 9 year old stepdaughter plays, it’s kind of like minecraft but with lego looking graphics. Much like minecraft it’s actually a multitude of microgame “mods” some of which are more fun than others. My favorite is the bee hive simulator because it has a questing structure that I’m familiar with from this game, I may not understand everything about newer games but go here collect this much return, I get it.

Weird my 9 year old plays it too. The game is a problem though, its jam packed with unsavoury sorts that like to talk to young kids if you know what I mean.

I’m aware of that and so is she, oddly enough. She runs away from any stranger that tries to talk to her. She hasn’t seemed phased by anything she reads, maybe her generation is getting super callous to what they read anonymously online, I don’t know. She refuses to ever reply and usually just thinks it’s funny that someone is trying to talk to her, she may very well not even actually read it I don’t know how kids play.

I haven’t seen anything yet that would make me report a person, but I’ve heard . . . stories. Nasty stories involving mods that I’m so glad I have never remotely seen or even heard tell of in game.

I have seen a few things, I had to remove a few friends from her friends list when I found out they were in their 20s hanging around with a 9 year old on a kids game. I read all her convos so I keep a good eye on them, some kids though are easier targets on there.

Yeah I pretty much keep her close to me in game (though she mostly plays either by herself or with her young friends) but she seems to have the right idea, that you can laugh at the person talking to them, but don’t stick around and definitely don’t engage them.

To be honest I kind of hate playing it because it’s such a kids game. I’d never try talking to anyone because I don’t talk to kids on the internet that aren’t related to me. Likewise I can’t really see breaking it out on my own. I guess I do act as a sort of chaperone though, there’s been a few times when I’ve read a few lines from someone and been like, “don’t look, just run.” And it seems to work. I don’t know what they need to do to clean it up but there are some real weird weirdos there for sure. This generation is going to grow up immune to internet eye cancer, and they say we’re not evolving.

That vid has “Savix on Adderall” vibes.

Should just get minecraft for the kids, and then organize some sort of parent’s group to pay for a server and have someone monitor it, let the kids have the freedom in the game otherwise.

A group of parents in my apartment complex actually did so, and if the kids have friends outside of the apartment complex they can still be allowed onto the server, it’ll still be monitored afterall.

If some parent is especially tech-savvy or just knowledgeable in the realm of gaming, mods can be brought onto the minecraft server to switch it up a notch.
