As a returning player, can you simply explain what plunderstorm IS

I never experienced this event, so I was wondering if someone could just explain to me what it entails.

EDIT: I have never played fortnight or pugb, and frankly, know nothing about those games lol

Battle royal event in the wow engine, but not wow classes

Its like fortnight I guess. You’re dropped into a zone (last time it was Arathi Highlands) with virtually nothing and you collect powers and levels by killed NPCs. Then PCs show up and you fight them, taking their powers if you want when you kill them. Last man standing wins. The zone shrinks as you play forcing players together.

-60 people get dumped into random points of a re-designed Arathi Highlands
-you have a couple base abilities, and then you can find item drops from chests or mobs that will give you new abilities and/or upgrade your existing ones
-everything you interact with will drop gold piles you run over to pick up
-if you kill another player, you get their accumulated gold
-the map has a circular storm that slowly shrinks until everyone is forced together

It’s basically PUBG or Fortnite, but in WOW. You land in the arena, you run around to pick up loot and power-ups, and you fight people until someone wins. All while a storm slowly closes in making the arena smaller and smaller.

It is a pirate-themed limited time Battle Royale and its separate from the main game.

PVP with Johnny Depp. But joking aside, it is pirate PVP.

So is it not your base character?

Like, it sounds like it isn’t simply a pvp arena with many people fighting until the last one remains. I’ve heard things like “you level up” and “use spells you don’t have in the game.”

Do you play with like a specific plunderstorm character or something?

What everybody else said…Plus, it actually has fun abilities, movement control, and PVE mobs…but then PVP happens and it becomes horrible. (My opinion of course)

At the end of the day is just becomes a long painful grind as people try to get the rewards as fast as possible while avoiding the unpleasant aspects. The fog wall is your friend.

Yes. Its a completely seperare character that stays on the Plunderstorm server

Plunderstorm Server?

I guess you could call it a different game “mode”.

When you log in, you click the plunderstorm icon at the top of the screen and it takes you there.

Its completely seperate

As in, it never gets moved to the “real” servers.

You basically just go through character creation for the sake of customizing your appearance but your character for Plunderstorm exists just for that.

!!! I definitely wasn’t expecting this aspect

Do they do that for balance, like to have everyone start at level 1 and using the same abilities?

PUBG but with WoW pirates

Basically, yeah.

Plunderstorm is effectively a separate game that just uses the same game world as WoW.

Fortnite BAD! Minecraft good!

Ok, that helps me understand the comment I read where they said it was basically a different game using a WoW skin.

Bleh, I’ll pass. LOL

I think of it as a bit like a mobile game. It launches from the WoW launcher but its entirely separate, in its little game bubble. You couldnt use a WoW character as the Plunder characters are designed for the Plunderstorm.

and then you get the rewards from the plunderstorm character because it’s all account-bound?

I like your analogy btw
