One thing has blown me away as I’ve been forced to do this agonizing unending chore of Vol’dumb world quests to unlock my REAL character (my vulpera, not my stupid orc hunter).
Map quality has fallen off of a cliff in WoW. These maps are jarringly different in quality.
Panda island? It’s detailed, it’s vibrant, it’s colorful. There is so much visual goodness to unpack that when I make a new pandaren it feels like I am getting flooded with visual awesomeness.
Vol’dumb? I go there and it’s just lifeless, boring, dead, there’s nothing visually appealing or fun about it. I obviously haven’t unlocked flying as I am a newer player, and I don’t think I ever will because that seems like a nightmare-- which only adds onto my massive resentment of this mess of a map.
Hills, valleys and stuff that makes moving around the map a SLOG at BEST. AT BEST a slog. I cannot emphasize just how utterly blitheringly ridiculous it is trying to move from one world quest to another. It’s obscene.
So it’s amazing how much of a different there is between Panda Island and Vol’dumb. Panda land is rich, vibrant, visually stimulating and FUN.
Vol’dumb? I am astoundingly bored, want to just unlock vulpera and NEVER EVER EVER EEEEEEVEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR go back there again to this drab, boring, hideous place.

The zones you are referring to are called the The Wandering Isle and Vol’dun respectively. I am quite fond of the Wandering Isle myself.
Vol’dun has Its own charming landscape, in a desolate and forbidding manner. I wish you luck on your quest to unlock the Vulpera.

It’s almost like one is a lush forest, and one is a desert… Odd…

Your REAL character is from Vol’dun.
Enjoy the rep grind.

Wait… are you telling me that a desert… A DESERT… is nothing like a jungle?
Say it ain’t so!

I like Vol’dun quite a bit actually but I am fond of desert zones. I liked old Desolace in vanilla too.

Yes but it could be a cool interesting desert. Rather than an empty lifeless mess filled with ridiculous hateful snakes and scorpions.

Between Zandalar and Kul’Tiras, I felt Kul’Tiras was far better realized, though it’s probably a greater pain in the neck to navigate overall.
Though I don’t think Blizzard is really going to match what Pandaria felt like. It felt unified and fantastical. Lately they’ve just been kind of cobbling together various biomes onto a single landmass for the sake of variety.

For a Desert Vol’dun is pretty well done actually.
They arent supposed to be pretty

Sounds like a desert to me? Like…what else are you expecting? A desert is mostly sand with snakes and scorpions. The giant snake statue and arcing lightning is actually really cool in the sky box.
It just doesn’t sound like you enjoy desert.

I really wonder how people expect to be taken seriously when they say things like “Vol’dumb”.

I can relate, my friend. When I first got to Tanaris I was all, “where are all the big trees like in Feralas? This place doesn’t have anything!” And I can’t believe that Blizz still hasn’t even fixed it to this day!

OP, is it that you dislike Vol’Dun specifically or BfA zone design?
The biggest problem with modern zone design, to me at least, is their density. Every square inch is used by some quest or world quest, which makes the world feel overcrowded and artificial. Older zones like Eversong and Outland Nagrand feel more organic.
Kul Tiras is actually pretty decent in this regard though, a lot of its mountains exist just to exist.
I greatly prefer Kul Tiras too, but Zuldazar and Nazmir are also pretty well done IMO. It’s just Vol’Dun that’s kinda meh… I would’ve preferred it to be more like Tanaris (my favorite desert zone).

Something tells me that OP doesn’t understand basic science.

I fail to see the problem here. It sounds like you’re describing a desert to me.

Deserts actually have a ton of living critters in them (and not just scorpions, snakes and bacteria either). They tend to have smaller birds and animals instead of bears and dinosaurs, but there’s a lot of wildlife wandering around the average desert. So, you might see squirrels, bats, rabbits, foxes, owls, woodpeckers or even hummingbirds in a desert. Just don’t expect to see much during the middle of the day in summer, they still want to find a cool place to hunker down in.
For plants, grasses are certainly common, though you do get cacti and trees as well; they’re just going to be sparser than in a forest.
Here’s a couple short links in case someone wants to learn a little more about desert wildlife, specifically in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona (US):
I don’t think you fully appreciate Voldun until you can fly. It’s not just a desert, it’s a massive network of ruins from a lost civilization.

I like Vol’dun too.
Also, OP, Vol’dun is only one section of that island theres a whole jungle there too you know?
The jungle is pretty amazing as well. Probably what Stranglethorn would have been if devs had the tech back then.
