As a mage in p3 bg pvp

Should I reroll? I can’t stand a chance against pretty much any class rn. all the other casters can do decent dmg but with this 30% reduction of damage, I’m pretty screwed. just because Spriest are insanely good doesn’t justify all magic classes to get burned like this.

i’d stay with the group and not fight 1v1. some classes do better in teams.

Mages are okay atm, they take finesse and not a faceroll class like other casters, the problem is mainly mana with the damage reduction AND 30% stamina boost you go oom too quickly in team fights with mana gem not giving back enough mana and evocation being too long a cooldown to be used frequently.

The other issue is getting damage out as frost is abit… tedious to say the least.
(2.5-3sec casts feel bad in sod meta)
I think with frozen orb at 60 it’ll feel much better!

Fire is doing great(balanced) damage wise just need mana adjustment’s.

Overall I think maybe a reduction on evocation to a 2min cooldown and mana gem mana return bumped up abit would go a long way without breaking the class in PvP and pve (you won’t evocate more than once in a boss fight anyway)

Mana is what is killing the fun for me

I could get used to this dmg reduc np if it didn’t make mana feel so much more oppressive than it already is.

Because of the mana issues as a DPS mage I just decided to go frost healing since it’s very strong and a fun and exhilarating playstyles when done right.

But only feeling viable as a healer or cc bot is pretty disappointing regardless

Yea its pretty rough, ive found a build thats playable.
0/18/23.
hotstreak, deepfreeze and baelfire bolt runes, with shatter cold snap and iceblock.

Spam baelfire hits hard and solves the mana issue, deepfreeze/shatter hotsteak proc when theyre close with double iceblock! well worth the slight give up in damage imo.

Levelled my shaman from 40 - 50

My enhance slaps in raids and Ele is bonkers in PvP. I miss my mage but until we get specific class tuning as flat damage reduction is with the increased HP and as mentioned the mana mechanics are dated for what SoD offers.

Lol no. Not all.

if you’re trying to kill people in a bg, you’re playing mage wrong.

Mana is 100% the main issue with Mages at the moment.

I just stick with the group and use poly/rank 1 frostbolt as a CC bot while fishing for procs to occasionally get a massive burst window. This playstyle does pretty well for me and I rarely if ever go OOM

If horde don’t attack you spam frostfire bolt ez.

Hey! its my turn as a warrior main! its my turn i finally get to do it ! i get to do it guys! ive waited all of p2 and most of p3 for this!!!

SOUNDS LIKE A SKILL ISSUE !!!

Are you doing the right things? Ex: using frost bolt rank 1 to slow melee and then hard casting them? That just one example. There are many but I don’t play a mage much.

i would be for a 10% resource cost reduction for casters along with the changes they have.

Mana is a huge issue plaguing mage. Before the pvp damage nerf, I was constantly hugging the regeneration hut in WSG. Now, it is simply unplayable. This is mainly because of our runes. Other classes use runes as their main source of damage. Most runes cost less mana and do higher damage than base spells . However, mage runes are mana eaters or unplayable in pvp. Arcane Blast, high mana cost and too long of a cast time to use in pvp. Frostfire bolt, too long of a cast to be used in pvp. Baelfire bolt, eats all of your spirit and is under tuned in pvp and pve. Burnout increases crit chance by 15% but crits costs an additional 1% base mana. Playing frost or fire with burnout, molten armor and pvp gear, your spells crit 35ish%+ of the time. This sounds OP until you realize we are balanced around this. Even in pve when mages are sitting at 45%+ crit, without factoring in talents, all 3 specs are under performing. Mage is worse off in pvp because of this rune. If your don’t play it, you will have a hard time killing anyone, if you do, you will run out of mana very quickly. Fingers of frost and brain freeze would be great for pvp if ice lance wasn’t so terribly under tuned.

Mage is under performing in pve and pvp. Instead of doing aura buffs or buffing mana regen, fix the root cause. Below is a list of things that would help mage in pvp/pve and with mana issues.

Disclaimer, I am just listing the changes I think would resolve these issues and do not think they ALL should be implemented. I do not want mage to be op, just fun to play and viable.

1 Buff ice lance a lot.
2 Buff icy veins, lower is cooldown and increase casting speed or make all spells cast while in icy veins cost no mana.
3 Make frostfire bolt/ spellfire bolt shorter base cast time or work with cast time reduction talents.
4 Arcane blast stacks should also reduce its cast time.
5 Enlightenment buff should last until under 60% mana and it’s 10% mana regen while casting should be 100% and begin at 40% mana.
6 Hot streak crits should cost 1% of current mana, not base.

Most of these runes were ctl c/ctl v’d from other expansions. The problem is, mana was far less of an issue in those expansions than it is in classic, especially at lower levels.

Logik, take a look at my post here Mage Feedback RE: Aggrend Request, would appreciate your feedback being added to my own so Mage’s have a consolidated place to post their concerns instead of stray threads that don’t get much traction.

Real talk thought, I’m in a bg and i’m hitting for 400-500 and sometimes even less with a 3 second cast timer. its insane how crappy mage is currently. before the reductions I had a chance but not its just garbage

mages pose no threat at all to me…i feel they got shafted because blizz things they should suck bc they was so good in og vanilla or era. Only time mage kills me usually is they get a pyro off from the back not paying attention

Blizzard gives us an absurdly op heal and now we aren’t allowed to deal dmg in pvp because of it I guess qq

And before someone points out spell power

The fact that mages only deal good dmg on a crit and otherwise deal crap dmg is kinda part of the issue too ><

I like when I’m fighting alongside a Mage because I feel they are the only ones who understand hard CC. Every other class starts dotting everything in sight up and you literally can’t CC anything. There is no way I am blinding anything with any caster around me if they aren’t mage and even mages Living Bomb everything.

mages need help in pvp for sure. atm they are only maybe decent at being healbots, or spamming bombs for lucky cheese. My good buddy is a mage and he was hoping for something these past 4 weeks, nothing came so hes out and I dont blame him.
